General Discussion / Re: Is anyone using a Windows environment to run NWC on a MAc?
This is a really interesting question for me too!
A friend of mine has been in the same situation for years... "so... is it already OSX compatible?" he asks everytime we meet.
I think some people runs it using WINE, a Windows emulation for OSX, but if anyone has any other options (other from Rich's or WINE) we'll be glad to listen to it!!  ;D

Thanks friends!!

General Discussion / About NWC and W10
Hi friends,
My question is really simple: is there any compatibility issues between NWC and Windows 10?? I'm thinking about updating my computer (still working with W7...) and I need to keep using NWC to make music.
Can somebody explain any experience running NWC in Windows 10??

Thanks a lot friends  :))

General Discussion / Re: It's 2021 and NWC still lacks one obvious feature?
Hi!!
I'm asuming that you are talking about a sheet with a typical chord notation above, so please, can you tell us how do you input the chord symbols? I mean, depending on the way you do it, it could be solved or not...

D.

If you insert the chords as text, then there's nothing to do... text is text and it's independent of the musical information on your score, sorry... but if you insert the chords using the ChordPlay.nw user object, then it changes automatically when you transpose the score using the "Transpose Staff" Tool.

Try it!! I think this User Object is the feature you're looking for... Unfortunately if you used the "Insert Text" option to insert the chords, I'm affraid you'll need to re-write all of them manually using the User Object in order to turn those "text symbols" into "musical symbols".

If someone out there has any other solution I'll be glad to read it!

D.

PS: Yeah!! I'm still alive, my friends!! And keep reading you all frequently ^__^

General Discussion / Re: Rehearsal Marks
Hi friend,
I usually use MusikDings font.
Assign it to one of the user fonts and insert the Rehersal Mark as a text insert. I think the font collection is packaged within the last version of NWC... if not, you can find them on Lawrie Pardy's website.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: MPC
Quote
What you're describing is a crescendo
Completely agree... but I think is important to understand the diference between volume and velocity.
In NWC crescendo (in fact, every dynamics) changes the velocity values (the force used to play a note) while Volume MPC changes the volume of a note (or track section). Usually more strength playing a note means more volume BUT it also means more intense playing (obviously, with a different sound of the instrument). Much VSTs or multi-sample instruments today use different samples for each velocity, so if you reduce the volume of a fortissimo you won't get the same results as using a pianissimo dynimic change...

Think about it  ;)

Keep enjoying music, friends!!  :))

General Discussion / Re: Is the NWC Viewer/Player available as a webpage
Maybe I'm wrong (please correct me if so...) but I think some years ago there was something like a "web browser extension" or something like that, and (if I remember well...) there was a winamp plugin too...
Sorry, but this is all I can remember about this topic... Hope it helps ^__^

General Discussion / Re: Best wishes to all here
There was a joke email going around,
There's 10 thousand of them >_<!!! and now that everybody's isolated at home and nobody's at work, people seem to have soooooo much free time to create more and more and more.... I receive over 20 or 30 everyday from my whatsapp contacts (including from my wife though we live together ¬_¬)
Everybody is facing this situation with a little humor, because if not they'll we'll go mad...

General Discussion / Re: Best wishes to all here
Thanks mates!
Here in my country things have turned a little weird... It's a hard situation because the whole country seems to be stopped. Closed businesses and collective hysteria. Despite all of it I'm (luckily) still not infected, so I'll do my best to remain heathly! ^_^

General Discussion / Re: Evolution ML-249c USB Keyboard
Hi Ian,
your Evolution MK-249c USB Keyboard is a MIDI controller, it means that it will not produce any sound by itself. You will need to use some virtual instrument to generate sounds and then set EvoMK-249c as a MIDI Input. By the way, this controller was discontinued long ago so connecting via USB could be a problem with W10 drivers etc... If W10 sees the keyboard as a MIDI IN Interface then every software must see it too, but if you are having troubles with NWC to see it you can try connecting it via MIDI (if you have any MIDI ports on your soundcard/audio interface, of course). You will need a standard 5-pin MIDI cable connected from the MIDI OUT from the EvoMK-249c to the MIDI IN port, then set this MIDI IN port as a "Input Device" in NWC and you'll get the keyboard connected to NWC inserting notes in your score... but remember that NWC will not produce sounds by itself (it's just a notation software), so you will need a virtual instrument anyway =(

There's lots of free piano (or organ, synth, etc.) VST/Libraries on the net to achieve a good virtual instrument setup on your computer: i.e. Kontakt Player with some piano library, VSTHost (or an old version of Cantabile Lite) with a decent free piano VST... google it and find the best option for your needs ;)

Good luck,
Lloyd.

And if I'm not a Facebook user, then what?
I'm in this situation... If NWC starts using FB instead of this forum I will not be able to participate in the user community  :'(

General Discussion / Re: My Best!
Great job!!
of course, one of my fovaourites... I think you also enjoy the transcription of Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick". You can find it at the Scriptorium... It's a FULL ALBUM transcription, so I recommend it a lot. Take a look and sure you'll get some more ideas.
Keep Notewhorthy-ing!!! ^__^

General Discussion / Re: What happened to my last bars?
There's a transparent bar in meassure 39, on the "Harpe" Upper, just after the chord. IT'S A TRAP!!
This print failure often happens if one of the staves have more meassures than the rest. ;)

EDIT: Of course, it will print correctly if you delete this "extra" bar ^__^

General Discussion / Re: Cut and paste all staves
That's really awkward one staff at a time.
I agree... It's usual for me to work with at least 10-staves-score and when I need to copy/move one passage it's tedious to do a copy->paste around 10 times (one for each staff). A native tool for selecting, copying and pasting multiple staves could be very useful, but as far as I know NWC don't implement this option, so I'm affraid there's no good solution for this  :'(

General Discussion / Re: Fake master repeat open
Uhmmm.... ook ook  ::)
The attached file is another way to "draw" it. It's really ugly and very unconfortable to do (and also I don't know how it will be drawn at the end, when printed...), but it's a quick solution without coding a new User Object (which would be a real solution for the problem).

Maybe using Markup.rg User Object you could achieve your purpose too... just try both and choose  :))

Hope this time it helps you  :P .

General Discussion / Re: Fake master repeat open
An easy way to do a fake (visual only) Master Repeat is with a Section Open/Close bar:  insert it and add a text with " : ".
In the example I used a symbol present in default font "Staff Symbols - NWC2STDA".

Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.751,Single)
|Text|Text:"  "|Font:StaffSymbols|Pos:0|Justify:Center|Placement:AtNextNote
|Bar|Style:SectionOpen
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:0
|Text|Text:"  "|Font:StaffSymbols|Pos:0|Justify:Center|Placement:AtNextNote
|Bar|Style:SectionClose
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

Hope it helps you  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Share with Finale or Sibelius
Uhmmm... the only way is exporting MIDI files, I guess :(  and it's really far from a good solution.

Things to do:
File -> Export... -> Dialog for entering Path, Filename and Type 1 MIDI File. Then import your MIDI in Finale and/or Sibelius, but remember that this procedure will erase lots of information and visual arrangements...

Good luck  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Connected bar only at end of score (and staffs) - is this possible?
Hi H.M.
don't think I forfot about this... but I've been working a lot this summer (musicians' life ::) )

Those corrections over my script were really great, so.........
Quote
Lloyd, could we together (or you) make this now a publishable plugin?
.........of course WE can. If you don't have an ID to publish the plugin, I'll upload to the forum. But.........

Quote
what else would have to be done?
.........the problem with boundary changes is still there, so we can try to fix it before publishing or doing it right now.
It's your choice  ;)  so, please, tell me what you want.

And, of course, if someone else has any idea to improove this object it will be welcome!!

General Discussion / Re: Problem with online object sync.
Quote
I suspect it is related to 2.75a (and possibly in conjunction with XP)
I'll go a little beyond, I suspect something occured when v2.75a Beta 011 were installed. I'm almost sure everything worked fine for me before this (when I was working with Beta 010)... as I said, I scripted "PedalLine.fso" using Beta 010 and I'm almost sure it updated everything without problems at this time.
33
General Discussion / Re: Problem with online object sync.
But the online sync functions still work fine in NWC v2.75 on my system (WinXP x86), I've tested this morning and it scanned all plugins correctly... it only happens to me (to us?) with NWC v2.75a Beta versions, so maybe the point is not there... I mean, if there's a problem with server certificates it would always happen with every version of NWC running under WinXP... am I right? ::)
34
General Discussion / Re: Connected bar only at end of score (and staffs) - is this possible?
Quote
had considered using a Staffsig object.

Thanks Mike! I considered it :D ... but I thought there's more than one way to make a system break (as well as the NWC default), so it was faster -and easier- to make it this way. I know it's very uncomfortable to add each instance one by one manually, but I'll work on it ( first on Rick G's suggestion, next on StaffSig function  ;) )
35
General Discussion / Re: Problem with online object sync.
I'm now working with XP (x86)... I know it's a little outdated OS, but I usually use it only for net, mail and play ( games :P )
I have a Win7 (x64) system for more serious work, but this one have no connection, so I can't test the online sync function (I update NWC manually in this system).

I hope this will help to find a solution  :))
36
General Discussion / Re: Problem with online object sync.
Uhmmm same problem for me... it says "Unable to connect"

I'm almost sure I've always been able to sync objects in NWC v2.75a with the same system config as I have right now... in fact I can't remember the last time I configured the firewall, antivirus or anything ::) .

I've re-intalled v2.75 and it seems to work, but not with any beta of the v2.75a (I've tested from beta 001 to beta 011...)
I remember I scripted "PedalLine.fso" with beta 10 installed on my system and almost sure that then online sync worked well for me...

General Discussion / Re: Connected bar only at end of score (and staffs) - is this possible?
Ok, as I promissed here's a little -extremely simple- user object to achieve what you (we ;)) want.
It's still testing object, so try it and, if you like it and consider it as a good one, I'll upload it into the User Objects Forum.

There's some uncomfortable limitations with it... but the most significative is that it's not authomatic :'( ... so you must enter one instance for each bar in each staff... in a large scores it would for sure it will be a problem.

Anyway... try it and tell me how do you think about ;)

General Discussion / Re: Switching Percussion Sound Banks
Hi,
you can check if there's some other staff making instrument changes on CH10. By default if you asign a staff to CH10 (in a GM playback device) it might play a drum kit... You can hear a BassDrum in C1, a Snare in D1 and E1, and so on... so remember to use a percussion or bass clef, as Lawrie said...

General Discussion / Re: general format lay-out sheet music

I want to know general settings for the lyric fonts, the distance between staff and lyrics (and also between the lyrics and the next staff).
Maybe I'm wrong (if it's the case, please feel free to correct me), but I think there's no standard for this... I'm sure there's lots of rules, but nothing like "general sttings". It depends on each score or even on each editor...
In my opinion, you might remember that, after all, scores must be confortable for musicians and/or singers, so keep it in mind when you chose the font typeface and the distance between staves and/or lyrics. It will be better if you can make it as clear for reading as you can.

Quote
Also I want to know if there is a way to create two lines for the lyricist and/or the author
For achieving this you can use a User Object called PageTxtMaestro.nw.

I hope it will help you  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Accidentals
This is one of my favourite things in NWC. You can set a key signature, but (if -for any reason- you want it) you can also write all the accidentals... the same occurs with time signatures... you can set a 4/4 as your time signature, but the software won't force you to write a 4/4, I mean, you could write 5 or 6 or 7 quarter notes in a 4/4 bar...

In your particular case, if you have set a key signature and you still have any unnecesary accidental you can use "Audit Accidentals" command (find it in TOOLS -> AUDIT -> AUDIT ACCIDENTALS) and this will remove any unnecesary accidental.
Since version 2.75a (beta-some-number-I-can't-remember) you can also add bracket signs "( )" to an existing accidental to turn it into a "Courtesy Accidental" using the hotkey "CTRL + ("

Hope it will help you  :))

Object Plugins / Re: PedalLine.fso (version 1.0)
Hi Bill, I'm glad the Object will work fine for you  :D

As I said, this review was done about a year ago, and as far I can remember the last tests I was doing in this time was about your second suggestion, the chance of changing the vertical position. As sson as I have a little time I'll retake this project to improve (as I promised) all the script.

The checkboxes you mention are for using it in Standard Class mode (in this way it will work as always  :)) )
44
Object Plugins / Re: PedalLine.fso (version 1.0)
Updated to v1.0
Now it can be run on StaffSig Class mode and it will auto draw a Pedal Line from an Down Pedal mark to the next Released Pedal.

William  ;D !!
It seems I didn't forget (everything) about your request... When I started to review the plugin I found a script written about a year ago with lots of modifications to achieve your request. I guess I "left it on stand by" for personal reasons (mainly work...) and then forgot to finish it... Try it please, because I'm sure there's still something that won't work as we want.
45
Object Plugins / Re: PedalLine.fso (version 0.2)
Oh my god!!! I completely forgot it!!!
Excuse me William, I didn't script anything for a lot of time, so I forgot about your request... There's some changes in the API since the last time I worked on this plugin, so during the next weeks I'll try to review all the code and I'll try to improve this object... Maybe I'm demanding too much but, please, be patient for a little more time... Now that I remember your request I'll work on it. :-[

General Discussion / Re: Computer playback
Does it happen with every file you play or it's happening only with some scores? Try playing the sample files included with NWC, if they play in the right way then the problem is not with the software configurations and you will need to upload some of the "wrong-playing" files in order to check where is the problem.

Tips & Tricks / Re: Melody Transfer
Quote
How did you make grace note invisible?
Just insert a grace note at the place you want -> select it -> Right-Click it -> Go "Properties..." -> Then in "Visibility" tab you can choose the option "Never" to make it invissible. It's also important to mute the grace note.

To add the glisando object just insert it AFTER the note in which it has to start. Then the plugin will draw a line from that note (just before the plugin instance) to the next note/rest/bar. To adjust the "vertical end point" you can use this hidden grace note, or you can try with the Offset options within the plugin properties... It's the same for "horizontal end point", if you need it just try changing "X Start/End Offset" options in the plugin properties.
I'm pretty sure that Mike would explain it much better, but anyway you can try in this way ;)

Good luck!

Object Plugins / OversizeTimeSig.fso (version 0.5)
Ups, I almost forgot to upload it... sorry  ;)

This user object has been made because of a request from our friend Lawrie Pardy, and it basically do the same thing as TimeSigScaler.nw published about a week ago. The only difference is that while TimeSigScaler.nw requires to insert one instance of the plugin before each time signature, this one has to be inserted only once at the beginning of the staff.

To start the plugin just insert a 'Span' class instance of the object at the beginning of the staff and it will automatically oversize any Time Signature colored in one of the 7 non-default colors.
The color which activates the plugin must be set manually.

OPTIONS:
Time Signature Color: Here you have to indicate which color will be used for plugin activation.
Scale (%): This option sets the oversizing percent. This setting can be modified with +/- keys.

Remember that it's recomemded setting to white the Highlight color used in order to make "invisible" the original Time Signature.

To start using this Object just copy the following clip and paste as a new file in NWC2.75.
Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]
