General Discussion / About NWC and W10
Hi friends,
My question is really simple: is there any compatibility issues between NWC and Windows 10?? I'm thinking about updating my computer (still working with W7...) and I need to keep using NWC to make music.
Can somebody explain any experience running NWC in Windows 10??

Thanks a lot friends  :))

Object Plugins / OversizeTimeSig.fso (version 0.5)
Ups, I almost forgot to upload it... sorry  ;)

This user object has been made because of a request from our friend Lawrie Pardy, and it basically do the same thing as TimeSigScaler.nw published about a week ago. The only difference is that while TimeSigScaler.nw requires to insert one instance of the plugin before each time signature, this one has to be inserted only once at the beginning of the staff.

To start the plugin just insert a 'Span' class instance of the object at the beginning of the staff and it will automatically oversize any Time Signature colored in one of the 7 non-default colors.
The color which activates the plugin must be set manually.

OPTIONS:
Time Signature Color: Here you have to indicate which color will be used for plugin activation.
Scale (%): This option sets the oversizing percent. This setting can be modified with +/- keys.

Remember that it's recomemded setting to white the Highlight color used in order to make "invisible" the original Time Signature.

To start using this Object just copy the following clip and paste as a new file in NWC2.75.
Code: (nwc) [Select · Download]

Object Plugins / WingedRepeats.fso (version 1.5)
This plugin draws winged Repeat Bars in the staff, just the same than Mike's (https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=9264)

To start the plugin just insert an instance of the User Object at the beginning of the staff and it will automatically draw "wing" decorations to any Master Repeat Bar.

OPTIONS:
  • If you select "One Staff" the object will draw both up and down decorations. Selecting "System: Upper Staff" or "System: Lower Staff" will draw up or down decorations, respectively.
  • Length: This will set the length of the wing decoration.
  • Angle: This will set the angle of the wing decoration.
  • Thickness: This will set the thickness of the wing decoration.
  • When class is seet to 'Standard' the object will draw wings only once.  ← NEW

To start using this Object just copy the following clip and paste as a new file in NWC2.75.

Object Plugins / ConcertPitch.fso (version 1.1)
This plugin modifies the 'Concert Pitch' during playback.
It could be useful for those who easily want to playback music in other tunings, different from A=440Hz.

Some examples:
  • Standard Pitch → A=440Hz
  • French Pitch → A=435Hz
  • Scientific Pitch → A=430.5Hz
  • Mozart's Pitch → A=423Hz
  • 19th Century Old Philharmonic Pitch → A=452Hz
  • 19th Century New Philharmonic Pitch → A=439Hz
  • Modern european orchestras → A=443Hz
  • Modern baroque music ensembles → A=415Hz
  • Modern european marimba & vibraphone → A=442Hz
  • Modern USA marimba & vibraphone → A=440Hz

To make the plugin run, insert an instance at the beginning of the staff and select one of the concert pitches in the list. The selected pitch will be visible in the plugin anchor. The pitch change is applied to the MIDI Channel, so all staves configured at the same MIDI Channel will be affected by the plugin instance.

This plugin doesn't add a real 'tuning function', it only approaches to it, and while most of the VSTi's have an option to change the 'tuning' of the VSTi itself, I strongly recommend to use VSTi functions instead of this plugin. Meanwhile, it would be useful for those who doesn't use VSTi or those who can't change the tuning in other way and want to playback music in other pitches.

Copy and paste the next clip in a new NWC 2.75 file and install the User Object from Tools/Manage Objects.

Object Plugins / DrumStaff.fso (version 0.1)
This plugin is intended to make things a little easier for writing drums and percussion music.

The 'General MIDI Percussion Key Map' does not correspond with actual standard used in the written music for drums, so DrumStaff tries to solve this problem. DrumStaff consists in two different objects: one that improves notation by the adition of some Custom Noteheads and other usual marks, and other that adds playback support to DrumStaff.

To enable the VISUAL Custom Noteheads just insert a DrumStaff.fso object at the start of the staff. Object's Class have to be set to "StaffSig" to make Custom Noteheads work properly. After this you only have to insert notes on their correct staff positions according to the attached DrumKey (more or less standard).

The different tecniques or elements are determined by the Noteheads and other marks (X for cymbals, or snare Rim Shot, 'o' and '+' for open and closed Hi-Hat, etc.). Once the notes are entered at the correct staff position, just select the apropiate NWC Notehead. The plugin automatically will turn the usual Notehead into the Custom one as follows:

Blank Space in the Snare Drum position (E2) turns Rim Shot.
Shape 5 - so in the Snare Drum position (E2) turns Cross Stick.
Non-Pitched in the Hi-Hat Cymbal position (B2) turns Open HH.
X in the Hi-Hat Cymbal position (B2) turns Closed HH.
Blank Space in the Hi-Hat Foot position (F1) turns Splash HH.
Blank Space in the Crash position (C3) turns Crash Cymbals.

Other usual NWC marks must be compatible, like staccatos in Crash Cymbals (for Choked Crash) and text markings or other user objects for some snare tecniques like Buzz Roll or Double Stroke Roll, as well as the rest of usual NWC Noteheads, used for specific elements (Ride Bell, Splash Cymbal, Cowbell, etc.)

In case that the open/closed Hi-Hat markings were unnecessary they can be disabled from the plugin properties. In that case use 'X' notehead (closed Hi-Hat) all the time.

In adition, DrumStaff offers some other markings to use not only in Drums notation: (object's class must be 'Standard' for those ones)

METRIC MODULATION: this options lets to easily add symbols like 'Tempo Figure=Tempo Figure' to the staff. Both first and second tempo marks are fully selectable and combinable and the full mark can be scaled.
MALLETS/STICKS: this options inserts icons and (or) labels for some types of mallets and sticks. Both icons and labels are independent and can be scaled, otherwise, the text style in labels will be Bold Italic.

To enable DrumStaff SOUNDS just follow the next instructions:

Staff MIDI Channel: Must be set to 10, because drums sounds are usually played at this MIDI channel.
Transposition: Transpose your staff (percussion clef) up by 4 octaves (Staff Properties/Instrument/Transposition/+48). That's only for security reasons, because we don't want to overlap sounds.
Insert Plugin: Insert an instance of DrumStaff_AUDIO.fso plugin at the start of your staff and, on properties, click the checkbox to enable playback.
Repeat: After this you will need to insert a new (playback enabled) instance at the end of each meassure. This is the most important (and annoying) step, because if the 'end instance' is not found for too many meassures the plugin will crash and NWC2 will disable it.

Remember:
· Be careful with MMR. Although you will see only one meassure, Multi-Meassure Rest meassures count for more (as many as MMR says). Disable playback before the MMR, and re-enable it when needed.
· There's lots of play styles and drum tecniques but General MIDI hasn't a sound for each one, so Buzz Roll and Double Stroke Rolls are not supported, and other plugins have no effect over the sound. You can writte them, but they can't be played. Sorry  :'( .
· Although other plugins have no effect over the sound, dynamics are supported  ;D .
· You can enable/disable sound of any DrumStaff_AUDIO instance with '+' hotkey.

Finally, scripting the code was a little complicated, so it might be full of bugs (maybe more than usual)... As always, please test and report.
The following clip will show a beautiful sample of DrumStaff. Enjoy drumming...

Object Plugins / TupletMarks.fso (version 0.1)
This plugin draws a Tuplet mark. Only for ornamental purposes.

To make it work just insert it before the first note of the tuplet, then set the span of the mark and the number of the tuplet.

OPTIONS:
Span: Sets how many notes or rests are included in the mark. Grace notes doesn't count. This option can be directly modified in the editor with +/- keys.
Staff Position: Indicates if the mark will be used at the top or at the bottom of the staff. 'Auto' mode changes between 'Top' and 'Bottom'when the mark is above or bellow the middle line.
Style: Defines the pen style of the mark.
Line Weigth: Sets the thickness of the pen style.
Gap: Modifies the space for the number. It can also be set to 0.
Number (or Text): The number (or text) typed here will appear on the mark. It will always be Italic.
Opaque: Makes the number (or text) cover any other object.
Font Style: Sets the font used in the number (or text).
Text Scale (%): Modifies the number (or text) size.
Text Vertical Offset: Modifies the position of the number (or text).

Object Plugins / BeamRestChords.fso (version 0.2)
This plugin beams the notes on two (or three) RestChords.

To make it work just insert an instance of this plugin before the first of the RestChords you want to beam. Notice that RestChords might be notated with quarter notes, otherwise 'real' beams will overlap the fake ones from this object.

Duration for first and last notes can be set, but it will not affect playback since 'real' duration is set by the rest of the RestChord.
Any stem length must be adjusted manually.

The following clip shows some samples. Please, test and report bugs  :))

Object Plugins / PedalLine.fso (version 1.0)
Hi,
here I go with my first attempt to create Object Plugins.

When inserted after a pedal mark (usually 'Pedal Down') it will draw a line to the next pedal mark (usually 'Pedal Release'). It must be specified what kind of line the plugin will draw ('Opening Line' for pedal starting section, 'Closing Line' for pedal ending or 'Previous Measure Line' if it has to continue the line from prior measure).

The plugin will also detect boundary objects in the active staff as "end points", so you can use them (with 'Force New System' option) to "cut" the line at System Breaks. Then insert another instance with 'Previous Measure Line' options.

OPTIONS:
Pen: Sets the pen style for the line.
Weight: Sets the thickness of the pen style.
Start Offset: Changes the start point.

Opening Line: Sets the line as 'Starting Section' (pedal on).
Closing Line: Sets the line as 'Closing Section' (pedal release).
Previous Measure Line: Usually used when the line have to continue from prior measure, for example in 'New System' boundary changes.

NEW in v1.0
StaffSig Mode:
When Class is set to 'StaffSig' this plugins runs in 'Auto Mode', drawing a line from a 'Pedal Down' mark to the next 'Pedal Released' mark. The settings 'Pen' and 'Weight' can still be modified.

The following sample will show a little more. As it's my first time always, I'm pretty sure that it's full of bugs ;) so... it's testing time!

General Discussion / NWC Transport
Hi, just a quick question...
is it possible to make the NWC transport start from an external MIDI device or with any MIDI event? if not, would be it possible in future releases?

General Discussion / Just a question (or a suggestion for future releases...)
Hello friends,
I usually use Noteworthy and I've always missed a feature for 2-sided printing support. I mean: Noteworthy has options for margins "left" and "right", not for "inside" and "outside", and it's the same for page numbers which always are in up-right corner of the page, instead of inside or outside corner. Has someone noticed this too? Is there any way for solving this?
