Object Plugins / Re: Tempo.ms (version 2.0)
@ hmmueller:
Thanks so much! That's exactly what I needed!  :)

@ Lawry Pardie:
The way I described it seems to be the typical way for Bartok in quicker pieces with unsymetrical rhythms (which he often calls "Bulgarian Rhythms"). An example for this would be piece Nr. 115 in Volume IV of the Mikrokosmos (Bulgarian Rhythm II), which also has a 5/8 time signature.

Object Plugins / Re: Tempo.ms (version 2.0)
Hi Mike (and all the other programming pros),

once again I am dreaming of an additional feature that (to my knowledge) is still missing in the tempo.ms object: I just composed a piano piece in the style of Bartok, which has a 5/8 time signature. As a tempo signature I would like to have 72 for a whole bar. So I would need a half note tied to an eight note to indicate that.

So this is what I want:
Con agitazione (half [tied to] eigth = 72)

As far as I know this is actually not possible in the program. If I am wrong, could you please tell me how to do it? And if I'm right - would it be possible to add this feature to the object? Or is this too difficult?

Hi Mike,

I'm so sorry, I was very busy the last days, so I didn't find the time to try your object. But now I did, and I must say: it's great!!  :) It's exactly what I was hoping for! So thanks a lot!!

Object Plugins / Re: TempoEquation.ms 0.2
Hi Mike,

I didn't realize until today that you started a new thread for this object...  O:)
I just tried it out, and I must say: I like it, it's great! Thanks so much for your effort! Now I'm looking forward for the update on the Tempo.ms-object... :-)

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
I agree with Lawrie Pardy, I'd also prefer the bracket to extend over the flag. But it's not that important for me, so if it's easier otherwise, that's ok too!
Thanks for your efforts, Mike! I'm really looking forward to the new object!!!  :-)

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
@ Mike:
wow, you don't lose time! :-)
I don't see a great problem with the nomenclature: I would propose a dropdown-menu for each side of the equation, in which you choose the note value you would like to have.

I think the following values could be useful on each side of the equation:
- dotted whole
- whole
- dotted half
- half
- dotted quarter
- quarter
(- dotted eighth)
- eight
- 16th
- two beamed eighth notes
- quarter + eight with triplet
(- two beamed 16th notes?)

With these specifications it would also be possible to indicate proportions in some classical scores, f.ex. in some Renaissance vocal scores in which you might have a quicker middle-section in a 3-beat-measure (example: whole = dotted whole)

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
Thanks also to HM Mueller!

In case the object should not work, you proposed a nice workaround (even if I would also think that it could take some time to get the spacings right...)

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
Hi Mike,

I would definitely be interested in a user object! That's exactly what I would like to have: just choose a position in the score and insert the object! So if you think this could be done without too much effort, I would surely be delighted!! :-)

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
Hi Lawrie,

thanks for your quick response! This will surely help a lot, at least for those songs that only need one "swing" symbol at the beginning. But as far as I can see now, it isn't possible to produce the second of my attached examples (the one for the straight eight notes) with your fonts. Or am I mistaken?

For there are songs in which you have several changes between straight and swinged eight notes (as f.ex. in the song "Coldest Water" by Walking On Cars, which I'm arranging at the moment)...

General Discussion / Re: Producing a "jazzy" feel
Hi everybody,

I just wondered if anybody could tell me how to insert a grafic indication in the score, that tells the reading musician that the eight notes should be "swinged". I attached two grafics to show what I would like to insert in my score...

Thanks in advance,
Jan-Frerk Burmester

P.S.: I tried to start a new topic, but I didn't know how to do... :-(

General Discussion / Re: Spacing out endings
I'd just LOVE to have a tool like it is discussed here! I've been layouting my scores for years now with the spacer tool, and it's an awful amount of work to get good-looking results!!!

I'd just like to add some points/ideas/thoughts to the discussion that hasn't been mentioned so far:

1. A spacer tool which allows you to proportionally scale down the standard "increase spacing for longer notes"-function would be very helpful for Renaissance or even older scores. Even if you have a romantic piece with a measure of 2/2 or 3/2, it would be nice if the half notes would get the same spacing as the quarter notes in an 4/4-measure. With a 6/8-measure it's even more difficult - it depends on the tempo of the piece if the spacing for the eith notes should be wider (in a slow piece) or smaller (in a fast piece where the dotted quarter notes are the beat).

2. The built-in fuction "increase spacing for larger notes" doesn't work well for 16th notes - their spacing is exactly the same as those for eigth notes! This is really awful if you have a piece with lots of 16th notes in it! (I tried to demonstrate this in the attached example: compare all first lines, and you'll see that there are 51 8th and also 51 16th notes in the first line. Apart from that, I think the space of the 8th notes is a little too big in comparison the quarter notes. But that could also be personal taste...)

3. What makes point 2 even more complicated: single short notes (8th, 16th, 32th etc.) should get more spacing than tied notes of the same type (at least in the case of 16th and shorter notes)

4. If you add a spacer in a score with lyrics, it overrules the extra spacing which is normally created automatically for longer syllables. This is really, really annoying! Now, when I want to layout a choral piece in, let's say, a measure of 3/2, then I have to add spacers to all (ALL!) notes in ALL staves to scale down their spacings. Afterwords, I have to go to the preview page and decide step by step, how many measures I want in each line. And after that, I have to increase manually the spacing for all short notes with longer syllables, hoping that that now increased spacing would still fit in the line and won't destroy the layout! And for each and every indivudal spacing, you have to check the preview afterwords, because it often happens that the spacing in the normal edit view appears to be to small, and the syllables interfere which each other - but in the preview they're just fine because of the additional space created by the "force system break" tool. (I hope you understand want I tried to decribe...)

I'm eager to discuss these points with you, and to learn if some of you are experiencing the same problems...

Tips & Tricks / Can I change the space between the lyric lines?
Hello everybody,

I have a question to you guys: is there any possibility to increase the space between the lyric lines in a piece with several verses? I would like to make it a little easier to read the different lines, so I think it would be helpful to have more space in between the lines.
I suppose there isn't any possibility to do this with a regular program function, is there?
But I could imagine there could be a way using a little user object. Is there someone who can help me?

Thanks in advance! :-)

Object Plugins / Re: XText.hmm (0.5)
Thanks for this wonderful Plugin!

If I may, I have a suggestion for a little extension: I often have had some trouble to place "commented" dynamics in a score, like for example "p dolce" or "sempre f". I could imagine to have the option to choose "Dynamic" instead of text in your object. This would be very helpful to insert special dynamics like the ones I mentioned above...

What do you think?  :)

User Tools / Re: Sforzando Implementation
I'm sorry to have to ask again - but I still don't get it.

I downloaded the User Tool Starter Kit, and I understand now how to install new user tools based on a php-file. So far, thanks for the links! Unfortunately I did not learn from them what to do with the code presented above.

I tried to paste it into the command line when creating a new user tool, but that didn't work (I wasn't able to paste the code, all that appeared was: "Option explecit")

Can someone tll me what I do wrong? Thanks in advance...

User Tools / Re: Sforzando Implementation
Hi everybody,

I'm afraid I have a stupid question to ask: can you tell me where I can find a description HOW to install user tools like the the one above?
I have been looking now for quite a time, and I'm afraid I'm not smart enough to figure out how it works...

I suppose I'll have to copy the programming code above - but where should I paste it? I would the glad to get some help... :-)

User Tools / Is it possible to scale down some of the staffs in a score?
Hello everybody,

even if I suppose this isn't possible, I just wanted to ask you to be sure.

My problem is: I'm actually editing a score of a piece for choir and piano. In order to reduce the number of pages, I would like to scale down the two piano staffs (to perhaps 60% or 70% of its actual size). Is there any object plugin or user tool which allows me to do just that? To have the four choir staffs at normal size, and under it the two piano staffs in a smaller scale?

I'm curious what the answer would be... Thnaks anyway! :-)

General Discussion / Problem with midi playback
Hi everybody,

I am actually going crazy because either the programm OR my computer aren't doing what I want them to do, and that's: Insert an Instrument Patch (f.ex. Clarinet) and simply GET a clarinet sound.
Unfortunately this isn't what's happening: I insert an instrument patch, and nothing changes. Or I get the instrument I want to hear, and 3 notes later it's the wrong one again...
Is there anybody who can tell me what exactly the problem is, or what I can do to fix it? Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I attached the score I am actually working on. Curiously the problem occurs most of the time in the flute staff (with sounds like a clarinet) and in the clarinet staff (which sounds like a trumpet or a flute).

General Discussion / Re: staccato: possibility to get smaller dots?
Hi Rick and Mike,

thanks for your quick answer! This helps a lot, even if I still have to adjust all the dots manually. But I'm afraifd I am not capable of programming a user tool like Cue Heads myself... :-(
Just in case someone else would like to help me with it: here is how I'd like the staccato to look (it's a little bigger than Rick's version, but still smaller than the standard in the program).

!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.751,Single)
|Marker|Pos:4|Target:Articulation|Visibility:Never
|Text|Text:"z"|Font:StaffCueSymbols|Scale:125|Pos:-4.5|Justify:Center|Placement:AtNextNote
|Note|Dur:4th,Staccato|Pos:-2
|Marker|Pos:4|Target:Articulation|Visibility:Never
|Text|Text:"z"|Font:StaffCueSymbols|Scale:125|Pos:-3.5|Justify:Center|Placement:AtNextNote
|Chord|Dur:4th,Staccato|Pos:-1,0
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End

And I still got a problem if the ornamented note is a second intervall and the stem is upwards (c.f. the example above). How can I shift the staccato dot to the left?
In any case: thanks a lot for help, guys! You're great! :-)

General Discussion / Re: staccato: possibility to get smaller dots?
I'm not sure if I explained well what I mean:
I would love to have staccato dots that are smaller then they are now in the program (only about 2/3 of the actual size), so that they stay more in the background when looking at a page.

General Discussion / staccato: possibility to get smaller dots?
Hi there everybody,

once again I have a little "wishlist item", and I wanted to ask if anybody has an idea how to create it:
there have been now several occasions in which I would have liked to have the possibility to change the size of the staccato dots (I hope this is how it is called? I'm not sure...) I think, these dots are quite big and heavy in their normal appearance, and (at least to my view) they often "disturb" the eye a bit when looking on a page, at least if there are continued staccato passages.
That's why I ask you creative other users: has anybody an idea how to approach this little problem of mine?

Thanks in advance!

Object Plugins / Re: SlurCubic.ms (1.1)
Hi Mike,

I'm just starting to use your slur.cubic-tool, which I find very helpful! Thanks for this!
But now I've just encountered a little problem, and I don't know if I am making a mistake or if I just hit the limits of your user object.

As you can see in the attached files, I tried to create a slur from measures 6 (3rd beat) to 10 (2nd beat). This works perfectly in the program itself, but in the printout it doesn't, because in the middle of the slur there is a system break. Unfortunately the slur only shows up in the upper system and doesn't continue in the lower one.

Now I'm curious if there's any possibility to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / Re: shortcut for "visiblity: never" ?
Hi guys,

thanks for your suggestions!
Unfortunately I don't understand how to use or install these user tools... :-(
Do you perhaps have a link for me where this is explained?
Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / shortcut for "visiblity: never" ?
Hello again,

there is just another question I have to the experts in this forum:
Is there perhaps a shortcut to change the visibility of a note or a group of notes to "never"? As a teacher, I am regularly creating work sheets for my students in which they have to fill in some of the notes, and it is really annoying to click each time with the right button, THEN select properties, THEN select visiblity, THEN select "never" and THEN click ok.
You see what I mean? :-)

General Discussion / How can I create a single staff orchestral bracket?
Hello again,

some months ago, I asked some questons in this forum, and I got some wonderful help by some of you! First of all: thanks a lot!
Now I got a new problem, and I hope that some of you will have an idea how to solve it:

when creating an orchestral score, it is sometimes necessary to add an orchestral bracket to a single staff (f. ex. in a Mozart symphony when the oboes are the only woodwinds participating). The problem is: if a use the layering function for the first and second oboe, I don't know how to get an orchestral bracket only for this single staff (which then consists of two staffs layered together).

I added you one of the scores in which I need this single staff orchestral bracket. And I just created an example of the first page in a graphic programm, to show you how I want the score to look like.

I would be glad if someone of you had an idea how to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance! :-)

Object Plugins / Re: Melismatic.nw
Hi,

thanks for your quick answers!
Well, you're right, that's what I had wished to get (melismatic lines for all syllables)
So, in this case: do you know a way to make the program produce more hyphens between the syllables in case of long melismas?

Object Plugins / Re: Melismatic.nw
Hi,

first of all: thanks for developping the Melismatic tool! This is something that I really missed through all the years I've been using the program!

Unfortunately the Melismatic tool does not work well for me: although it detects some of the melismas, it doesn't find all of them. But perhaps I am making a mistake when using the tool? Is there someone who can help me? I attached one of the files to show the problem, as well as a pdf Version in case you can't open the nwc file.

Thank you!

P.S.: English is not my first language, so there are probably some mistakes in the text...
