General Discussion / Re: No Single
I suggest you experiment.  Create a short section of music with 2 note chords, say A and C repeated a few times.  In between a pair of these chords add a C such that you have a few A and C chords, a single C note, then a few more A and C chords.
Run the tool WITHOUT "no single" and observe the result. Then press <Ctrl+Z> to undo it and run the tool again but this time use "nosingle" and note the result - do you see the difference?
Do this in all the different combinations you can think of.
Thank you Lawrie for your comprehensive explanation, I like it.

General Discussion / sluring Soprano note to Alto Note
Hello, what is the purpose of the sluring the Soprano note to Alto note like here in the attachment. Actually it has already had 4 beats in the soprano in the measure. When we spilt this staff , it will usually has a problem. Anyway what is the purpose when we split the staves, in the third promt it says nosingle. Does it have any relation to this kind of Notes like in the picture?

Thank you,

Frank

General Discussion / Re: extra spaces
Using this procedure I deleted all these boundary changes and saved as a new file (starting with 'og.'), see attached
Thank you and very very thank you Gus for giving the corrected one. Your user tool that you wrote is very helpful for our Indonesian church choir for practice. This is a very great help to the humankind. God bless you and your family.

General Discussion / Re: extra spaces
boundary offsets in bar 5 and 9 on the 4 upper staves.  There are also some smaller upper boundary offsets in the lower 4 staves.

Thank you Lawrie, I will ck on them, maybe when I was sleepy while facing my laptop, my hand inadvertantly hit the keyboard, sorry my daily job for life is a housekeeper in CA , while to balance between physical job and brain job, I make my hobby, learning and doing this software, including Ms Access database and Video Software, this is my effort to slower my aging process.

Thank you for your help.

General Discussion / extra spaces
Hello
I do not know what should I change in my page setup, why on my soprano and alto staves, there are extra blank spaces between my lyrics and the number note. I want it to be like my bass staff the number note, is just above the lyrics. See attached.

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: shifted slur when the staves splitted
Yes Lawrie it seems it's better using Retain, rather than Remove.
<snip>
Sometimes, sometimes not.  Once you are familiar with how the tool behaves you can often predict which approach will be best, but both retain and remove have their purposes and are equally valid to use depending on requirements.

In this particular case, retain was a better choice (IMHO).  I have found that the "no single" parameter is often less useful than it might seem.  Its application is *fairly limited, but when it is actually needed, it's invaluable.

* The sole purpose of "No Single" is to replace single notes in the selection with a rest.
Thank you that you mentioned it because at the first try before I erase no single,  the result is the same as not using retain. I wondered how can you get it, then i clicked the thir pop up, then there is word" no single". Then my result was the same as yours.

Again thank you very much.

General Discussion / shifted slur when the staves splitted
Hello,
I tried to split the staves using the user tools, starter then parts. My question is in the original (see attached, what does it mean from the soprano note slured to Alto note, and when I split it, even the slur is for soprano and the note in the soprano the 1/8 note changed to rest. How can I correct it, should I correct it manually reinstate again the 1/8 note for Soprano? and what shall I do with the slur.

Thanks for any help, because I want to change it to number note for practice in our Indonesian SDA church.

Thank you,

Frank

General Discussion / Re: how to make it like this
Did you also notice I changed the separate 1st and 2nd endings into a combined 1.2 ending?
Thank you Lawrie, Yes I did, but after comparing with yours, coz when I tested it didn't stop there. Thank you. And also there are still some correction that I should make, including the notes, I have to compare with the music sheet, because, some time I just copied from one staff to another coz it looks the same, but , there are accidentals not needed in the next staff.
Thank you very much.

General Discussion / Re: how to make it like this
You had a couple of things not quite right - please compare the files to find them - if I just tell you it won't reinforce as well as if you find them yourself.
Thank you very much Lawrie, after I changed the 3rd times special ending and make the same for all staves, it works like yours.
I have several question to make it perfect as the music sheet and sung sounds like the quartet
1. How can we make it so that the upperline on 3rd times ending coverrring/capping the whole section like  the music sheet
2. On the start of the Baritone lyric actually it just hold singging, there is no addtional word "steal away". how can we make it like long line from the first "steal away" keep holding to match its full note.
3. On Fermata, the singers is longer than the fermata of the piano playing nwc file, how can we make it longer
4. How can I understand the logic of the flow, what is the difference of using Coda etc

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: how to make it like this
I'm pretty sure this will work, haven't had time to actually notate anything to test.
Thank you Lawrie for your help, but maybe something wrong with me, I already tried as per your instruction on the first staff, but still can not work like the flow of the Heralds Quartet on the youtube. Should I make the same for all the 4 staves? then test it? Or I attach my nwc file?

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: how to make it like this
Okay, there are two different issues here. 1) Using the special endings to create the correct appearance in the score. 2) Getting the score to play back correctly with those endings in place.
Ok Mike, I know someone among us maybe know for both issues. Hi Lawrie, maybe you cuould help me on how to direct the flow of the section to be sung, or any others that can help me on this?

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: how to make it like this
This section on the NWC website gives a short overview of special endings:
Hi Mike,
It seems the song sheet was written with another software long time ago, I do not see like flow direction, coda, etc.
First the song quartet that we will learn is this one:
https://youtu.be/yDKhannlj5w
And as the pdf song sheet is more than allowed size, I just put it on my google drive, we can click the following:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QIy1Fg5jFUS-yFD28bM4JaOf1Fv9PJLx/view?usp=sharing
The following is the flow of the song, that I can not make it:
Point A. it seems the song started from Referrain/Chorus, after the end of the verse 1 and 2, always go back to point A
Point B. is special ending of the first time and the end the 1st verse (Point E)
Point C is the very ending, after the end of verse 2 Point G
The very final ending is on Point H

Thank you for your help

General Discussion / Re: single note on the songbook
You should be able to do what you want manually. See the attached file.
Yes, I am able to do it manually, just in case there is an automatic one in the user tools that can handle for some particural chord, coz if we follow the result when we put the lyrics it does not fit.
The reason that I split the song book staves is because I want to put the number note, coz in Indonesia, we prefer the number note to practice in our church choir when learning a song.

Thank you,

Frank

General Discussion / Re: single note on the songbook
I may have misread your question. Were those layered staves with both singing the 2nd half note?
Yes you misread my question. You know from the songbook made by NWC. I want to split the 1st couple staves by In 'Tools/User Tools.../.Starter Tools' you'll find the tool 'parts(adp)'. Before you use that you'll have to duplicate the staves in your file, so have 2 times 2 identical staves.

but I have problem with the one like on the picture while slurred and there is a singgle note to be used by 2 staves. My question is there anyway not to reedit it, but everything done by user tools?

Thank you,

General Discussion / Re: Part of the lyrics not shown on the Vabasco's Karaoke
Is there perhaps a different version that doesn't work?
Hi Francis, I attached here the copy of my revised file in order to show the first word by putting the whole rest in the beginning, but the problem in the refrain, is still presist that the soprano saying "when the roll" is not higlighting. I expect that as soprano saying "when the roll" is should be highlighting, thens when the tenor answer "when the roll " it should be highlihting too consistent with the notes of tenor and bass.

Do you have any idea how to make it shown on the karaoke text?
Thank you.

General Discussion / Re: Part of the lyrics not shown on the Vabasco's Karaoke
Frank, I think we'd need to see your NWC file to figure out why additional lyrics are not showing.
OK Francis, I will attach here the file. As to first word in the verse I know how to make it appear, just put the whole rest.
In the page setup I put show only soprano having in mind so that midi will not get confused when I expert it. I appareciate if you have any suggestion how to make all words that was sung by soprano will show up.
Thank you

General Discussion / Re: Part of the lyrics not shown on the Vabasco's Karaoke
Thank you Richard, I will try to learn it, by just adding the whole rest, yes will show the first word, but for the refrain one when there are some words in the refrain part that soprano says "when the roll".(not shown in the karaoke midi) ..and Tenor replied when the roll is shown....

Can your suggestion work for such a prolblem?.

Thank you

General Discussion / Re: Beaming with another note in the sopranostaff
However, the question I really have is:
How are you planning to use this song?
Do you intend to leave it as 4 separate staves, or will you layer the top 3 as previously stated?

Quote from: FrankSit – 5 days ago
I plan to use 4 separate staves, because this is for practice. And for the lyrics I tried to just combined by regroup the word to the note of Alto, Tenor and Bas as you can see on the file that I sent/attrached.

Thank you
