I suggest you experiment.  Create a short section of music with 2 note chords, say A and C repeated a few times.  In between a pair of these chords add a C such that you have a few A and C chords, a single C note, then a few more A and C chords.
Run the tool WITHOUT "no single" and observe the result. Then press <Ctrl+Z> to undo it and run the tool again but this time use "nosingle" and note the result - do you see the difference?
Do this in all the different combinations you can think of.

You probably have "Justify printed systems vertically" checked in |File|Page Setup...|Options (tab)

Using this procedure I deleted all these boundary changes and saved as a new file (starting with 'og.'), see attached

boundary offsets in bar 5 and 9 on the 4 upper staves.  There are also some smaller upper boundary offsets in the lower 4 staves.

Check the staff properties, one has too big a staff boundary (either upper or lower): see |staff properties|Visual (tab)

Sometimes, sometimes not.  Once you are familiar with how the tool behaves you can often predict which approach will be best, but both retain and remove have their purposes and are equally valid to use depending on requirements.

In this particular case, retain was a better choice (IMHO).  I have found that the "no single" parameter is often less useful than it might seem.  Its application is *fairly limited, but when it is actually needed, it's invaluable.

* The sole purpose of "No Single" is to replace single notes in the selection with a rest.

Find attached my *raw results using "Parts" but using either "Retain Top" or "Retain Bottom" parameters as appropriate for each staff.  Please note that it seems to reflect my assessment above.

My interpretation of that music (with which I am familiar) is that the slur doesn't belong there.

Did you also notice I changed the separate 1st and 2nd endings into a combined 1.2 ending?

On other things Lawrie, it could be something I forgot to key in, like the pedal release, is there any connection with the sound? when we play, maybe less volume. Or it is just for the pianist player.

You had a couple of things not quite right - please compare the files to find them - if I just tell you it won't reinforce as well as if you find them yourself.

If it still doesn't work please post and I'll try to get to it in a timey fashion, if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

I'm pretty sure this will work, haven't had time to actually notate anything to test.

Let me say the original score could have been written in a clearer way!

Okay, there are two different issues here. 1) Using the special endings to create the correct appearance in the score. 2) Getting the score to play back correctly with those endings in place.

I may have misread your question. Were those layered staves with both singing the 2^nd half note?

Is there perhaps a different version that doesn't work?

All words (except the first one) appear as expected.
