The problems your visitors will experience are not as bad as they could be. Using the test utility pointed to in the faq, I tested your site. It returns application/octet-stream for your NWC files. This means that your NWC files will be correctly interpreted as binary files by all of your visitors. However, if a visitor has installed the NWC plug-in, it will not be shown in the plug-in if your visitor uses Netscape or Mozilla browsers. These browsers requires that the correct MIME type be set before invoking the corresponding plug-in.
For others having problems, account name and password entry varies by newsreader. Look for an Accounts property menu in your newsreader, and find the place where you enter this info. All newsreaders should support this.
In OE, goto Tools | Accounts, click the News tab, and Add the newsgroup. In the newsgroup account properties, the Server tab is where you add the Account Name and Password.
Ivo, I am not familiar with your e-mail client, so I don't have any specific answers. From a casual read on its web site, it implies that it handles newsgroup posts just like e-mail. It seems like if you are unhappy with the way this client handles newsgroups, you might want to switch to a client that handles newsgroups more effectively.
If you moved your NWC MIDI settings along with NWC, you need to start over. Goto Tools | Options | MIDI and clear any devices listed for use in play back. Now, select one and only one device to use for play back and test it with one of the samples. Repeat this procedure until you find a MIDI device that works. If none work, follow the many past thread that discuss no sound, such as https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=2947.
The font is installed with the program. Simply install NWC from the CD. If you have any problems, reboot the machine and all should be well. Lastly, load up your files into NWC and save them with the full version.
Although they sound similar, there is no connection between our RSS newsfeed announcement and the NNTP newsgroup. They are distinctly different communication mediums: RSS newsfeeds tend to be one way (from publisher to reader), and NNTP newsgroups tend to be oriented around group discussion.
Note: There is no connection between an RSS newsfeed and an NNTP private newsgroup. This announcement should not be considered as having anything to do with recent activity surrounding a NWC NNTP newsgroup.
If you are new to the idea of RSS news, it is a standard way for web sites to deliver news updates that can be aggregated and displayed in special RSS reader software. The RSS reader software automatically does all of the work of checking various newsfeeds for new information and displaying new topics as they are found. This frees the individual from having to manually check numerous web sites for product news or updates. A single check of your RSS reader program can be used to get all of the latest news.
There are numerous RSS newsreaders available online. Here are a few of them:
Wildgrape Newsdesk (if you are unfamiliar with RSS, this site is a good place to start)
Another way to find out more about RSS is by starting at http://www.xml.com and then following the "What is RSS?" link in the Essentials section. Be aware, however, that most web articles on the subject of RSS tend to focus on the technical aspects of the RSS technology (XML), so it can be complicated to understand at first. This area is fairly new, and the focus on technical specs in introductory material is reminiscent of the early days of the Internet. Hopefully, it will get more user friendly as the area matures.
You can suggest other RSS readers, and share any other RSS information, by replying to this topic. Please keep replies relevant to RSS, since this thread will be linked from the NoteworthySoftware.com main page.
Create a MIDI file from the NWC file (the NWC2MID utility in the download section will make it easy to do this in batch)
Use a utility such as mf2t to create an ASCII representation of the MIDI file (you can skip this step if you are an experienced MIDI programmer)
Process the MIDI information (either the raw or the ASCII version) to extract the note information that you want to index
You could also use the NWCINFO program to extract the title, author, and play time information, if you intend to add this to your indexing system database.
It has been a long time since I worked with these Yamaha synths. You should be able to select your A through D sounds using just a simple Instrument Patch change. A1 through A32 are probably patches 1 through 32, B1 through B32 are probably patches 33 through 64, C1 through C32 are probably patches 65 through 96, and D1 through D32 are probably patches 97 through 128 (using 1 based numbering in NWC).
I just looked over the DX11 manual on the Yamaha web site. It appears to have an option that, when set, tells the unit to ignore incoming MIDI program changes. There is not any mention of Bank Select messages, which is consistent with my recollection of the classic Yamaha DX synth series. I found the manual at:
This is help best requested from the maker of your new computer. It is possible that your new computer does not support the keyboard to PC direction in its MPU401 implementation.
If you used an older version of NWC, then an older font typeface is probably required. If you have a NWC CD (either the 1.70 CD or the 1.75 CD), you can find these in the setup folder, named nwcfonts.zip.
Acrobat 5 is prone to total, silent failure if there is a font on your system that it does not like. Do you have an older copy of NWORN3 font (or any other unusual fonts) installed on your system? If you have an older copy of NWORN3, you should update it with the new version at https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=2312.
In NWC, you do this quite easily with repeats and/or flow direction instructions. The repeat*.nwc files in the Samples folder gives examples of what you can do.
Based on information at http://www.nemesysmusic.com/ the answer to your question is yes. In NWC, MIDI ports are selected by device name in Tools | Options | Midi.
No. The smart properties mechanism is performed after you press OK, so there is no way for those tabs to be presented to you when this mechanism is in effect.
This depends on your setting for Smart Properties Insert in Tools | Options | Editor. Right click and use the What's This? menu to learn more about it.
When Smart Properties Insert is enabled, only other text expressions that have identical text will be considered when placing a newly inserted text expression.
You can make this easier by copying and pasting an existing expression and then modifying them after they are in place to include any new text that you want to add. You can also disable Smart Properties Insert, and then text will be initially placed at the insertion point. You can always move it around by selecting it by itself, then using the Ctrl+Shift and the Up/Down arrow keys.
------------------------------ HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 07 Mar 2003 12:00:38 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) Last-Modified: Thu, 06 Mar 2003 16:27:44 GMT ETag: "cf507-a0c-3e677700" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 2572 Content-Type: text/plain ------------------------------
Note that the Content-Type is incorrect. The embedded version (using the HTML <EMBED> tag) will work for some browsers, since the <EMBED> tag itself indicates the actual correct mime type.
One more thing: Judging by the content in the Go Live forum at Your Web Hosting Company (just do a search for "htaccess"), you might have to ask for help from your hosting company admin. Some forum discussion on this site implies that you are, in fact, denied user level htaccess control. However, I could not find official word about this on the site, so you will have to ask them yourself.
By the way, based on the headers returned by your (Alexander Boltenko) site, it is being served by Apache Web Server software. This means that the instructions in the FAQ apply directly to your site.
First, it would be a good idea to upgrade to version 1.75. Then, follow the advice in the reply directly above your reply if you have similar problems.
The headers that your server sends are wrong. For example, the headers for America_The_Beautiful.nwc sent by your server are:
------------------------------ HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2003 02:39:49 GMT Server: Apache Last-Modified: Wed, 05 Mar 2003 20:35:05 GMT ETag: "220462-26f1-3e665f79" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 9969 Content-Type: text/html ------------------------------
The Content-Type should not be of type text/html. The content type for NWC files is best set to application/x-nwc. However, at the very least, you should set a binary MIME type such as application/octet-stream.
By default, dynamic changes alter the MIDI key velocity. It is possible for a synthesizer to respond differently to velocity changes based on the selected instrument patch. For example, an organ patch might be designed in such a way that it does not respond to MIDI velocity changes. However, it is very unlikely that a piano sound would ignore velocity changes.
Your best bet would be to combine MIDI velocity and MIDI volume overrides in an attempt to get the sound that you are after. You might also try changing to a different piano sound.
Clear your download cache, then try downloading to something like c:\download and see if that helps.
>It seems to be a problem with GLF90D2.TMP!
The name of the temporary file created at the start of the install is not an indication of anything, really. The install software uses temporary files for all of its activities.
>No. It doesn't seem to be a display problem.
How did you determine that you do not have a display driver problem? It is the most common cause of these type of things. The fact that you were able to apply update 4 means that something has changed on your PC since you applied that update. If you know what has changed, or what you are doing differently since applying that update, the easiest thing to do would be to reverse that change.
It is hard to know what is going wrong and causing this. Make sure that you download the update to a simple directory, such as C:\DOWNLOADS and then try running it.
It could be that you have a display driver problem. Does this happen when you run any of our install programs?
Ctrl+H is an alternate shortcut for the Backspace key. It will delete selected items. You can Edit | Undo to get them back, if you accidentally delete them.
You can use Edit | Properties to control the visibility status of selected items.
Not really. In order to do real-time entry into NWC, you really need an external MIDI keyboard. However, if you play around with the editor tools, you might find that it is not all that difficult to find the right rhythm. With a little practice, you might even start to prefer it (at least in comparison to trying to play on a computer keyboard).
You have to change the vertical spacing assigned to the staff. You can either do this in the same place where you removed lyric lines (Edit | Lyrics), or from Staff Properties (F2).
