Server Upgrade (Dec 2024)

We will be upgrading the server over the next 24 hours. Some down time will be necessary. The move involves a new IP address, so DNS propagation time will also be involved.

If all goes well, things will be back to normal ~~during the day of 18-December-2024~~ now.

There was a forum issue for those using the Opera browser. It should be fixed now.

I get a “page cannot be displayed” when I try to login to the forum from my home (cable) connection. It seems to work fine via cellular…

I do not see anything specific. We are currently using some rather aggressive blocking strategies to deal with all of the bad actors hitting the server. Are you able to access other things, such as our main page?

I do think the blocking is at fault. I should have been more specific about what is happening. I load the main page and I click to go to the forum. When I try to login is generally when things go awry. It’s actually a connection refused message that I get. And once it shows up, the main page also doesn’t load. It actually doesn’t seem to be connection-specific because I’m typing this from a business cable connection. It seems a bit unpredictable but may have to do with how quickly in succession my connection requests come in.

I am glad that the website is available again.
It was unreachable, then all of a sudden it was reachable again, but a few minutes later it was out of order again.
Now it seems to be up and running for more than half a day.
