Glissando

How can I notice "glissando" ?
I hope someone can help me.

The symbols and implementation of Glissando are not (yet) directly available in NWC.

The symbol for Down glissando is "f" on your keyboard,
and the symbol for Up glissando is "d" on your keyboard,
if you have installed the font "MusikDingsSerif" as (say) User Font 3.

This font is one of a number which are included in the installer "PardyPack"
which can be downloaded from:
http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/uc/pardypack/

For a discussion about the implementation of glissando, see:

So, a straight-line glissando (which I would love to use in a trombone part I have just written) is impossible?

Far from it.  The thread Haymo suggested has to do with the opening glissando in Rhapsody in Blue which goes up a whole octave and ways it can be implemented at different tempos or note durations.  It is not straightforward and I am trying to learn more about it as well.

IMO, it would be a lot more straightforward if NWC would simply allow access to all the controllers.

Warren, thanks for the reply, but that thread has to do with playback.  I am looking for a way to notate it on the staff.  After reading almost every previous thread on the subject, I experimented with Boxmarks 2, but it did not go well.

Thank you.  I will try again later using "MusikDingsSerif."

Hi Steve,
MusikDingsSerif, MusikDingsSans and SwingDings all contain the same characters, just in different typefaces.

Thanks you Haymo for bringing them to Steve's attention.

I installed the PardyPack and selected MusikDingsSerif as the font, but I still cannot get a glissando to appear on the staff.  When I use "f" and "d" I get a flat sign and a natural sign, respectively.

Hi Steve,
that indicates the selected font is actually NWC2MusikDingsSerif which is the system font, not the symbol font that contains the gliss symbol.  IIRC d=sharp, e=natural and f=flat.
probably a silly question and please forgive me if I'm wrong, but in your song, have you set the new font as a user font AND then selected that user font for the text entry you're creating for the gliss?  Note also that the *Dings fonts are designed to be used at the same size as the Staff Metrics - 20pt in the demo below

Try this nwxtxt file (MusikDingsSerif is User1 in this demo):

I just want to say thank you to all who replied.  Ultimately, I still couldn't get it to do quite what I wanted, so I simply added the lines with a pen and ruler after printing - which looked better than I expected. Thanks!

Hi Steve,
I'm sorry you ultimately couldn't get what you wanted.  As the creator of the font suite involved I'm quite aware of its limitations, but I did think I had that requirement covered.

Thansk for letting us know the status anyhow.

I'm also having trouble with glissandi right now.  If anyone has any method of making a decent-looking slide (I don't care how it sounds!) in the file below among all voices, please spill the beans.  A single "g" from Boxmarks looks pretty laughable to me, but I don't know what else to do.

One possibility attached. Not to beat a dead horse, but NWC's absurd lyric and beaming rules get in the way.

This would be child's play if the user could rotate text.

Nice, Rick!  I never thought of muted, stemless (errr ... stem 1), headless grace notes.  Obviously, the lines are too thick this way, but it looks presentable enough for my needs!  On to page three of the manuscript!

This is a good example of what spacers have been able to do for us. I've used the headless beamed note trick before to create lines, but because you can't beam grace notes across rests, I've usually had to use full-sized notes (on a separate layer). Which makes the lines really thick. Rick's example here is much better.

It probably has more to do with my limitations than the limitations of your font suite.

Enthusiastically seconding the positive feedback.  They are clean, easy (and especially, good looking) glissando marks.  Thank you, Rick.
