Grace notes again...

Hello. Sorry, hopefully this will be the last time I bother anyone. This is what I need. I guess what I need is a 2 grace notes and an eighth note as a chord. It obviously will only let me do the 2 grace notes as a chord, but not the eighth note. g symbolizes the grace note while 8N symbolizes the eighth note and I included the necessary beam to tie them all together:

__(g)__(g)__
__(8N)_(8N)_  well I think you get the idea, I know there
__(g)__(g)__  is 2 more chord parties involved so they can
___|____|___  all be beamed together to make 4.
___|____|___
---(beam)---

There just HAS to be some way to do this! I am doing a song for my girlfriend and these small (I guess they are grace notes) notes are put in this chord in the song. Please help! It would be greatly appreciated. Someone mentioned putting eighth rests in for the "grace" notes but it will not allow me to place an eighth rest in a chord with an eighth note. HELP!

Thanks! James

I can't make it work either, but then I'm not sure what rhythmic effect you're trying to accomplish.  A grace note is played before the note it ornaments, so it cannot be part of the chord.  I think what you're doing is musically incorrect.  You can fake it sound-wise a bit by using layered staffs and grace note chords tied to the same non-grace chord, set to be in visible, but you won't get the appearance you're looking for.

You could use one of the user fonts to insert a couple of grace notes as text, but that would be a little awkward when you want them one over the other as in a chord.

One way to achieve this is use layering--place the grace notes on one staff (you may need to insert hidden muted notes after them so they will line up) and the regular notes on an other.

Another way is to add grace notes as text using the NWCV15 font.  You can find a chart of it here:

It occurs to me that what you are trying to achieve is "cue notes" rather than "grace notes", and as far as I have been able to gather, these are not (yet) supported by NWC.

I think Graham may be right. I do grace notes in NWC1.75 by placing the notes as text, as suggested above. But for that purpose, I don't use the NWCV15 font for the note-text. I use my own (free, public) music fonts (esp. "Musisync") with its selection of pre-formed notes and note pairs, of various durations. When I made this font, I had NWC in mind, so it is not too difficult to get the text-notes to align with other things.

I had the same problem recently.  I added the grace notes using the Grace Note Attribute in the Notes tool bar using the Persistent Note tool, blocked the measure and muted it in Staff Properties, then on a hidden staff added the notes to be played.

Go to Scriptorium to What's New... and download the Chaconne in D Minor (Bach).  Check all groups in Page Setup and undo the laying.  Measure 73 shows how this was accomplished.
