looking for a conversion tool nwc to nwctxt

I am looking for a conversion tool to convert my nwc files to nwctxt files.
Some time ago I decided to switch from Windows to Linux Ubuntu. However, I have not been able to get Noteworthy Composer with all the nice possibilities smoothly running under Linux.
In order to still be able to use my collection of nwc files in other applications, I would like to convert them to nwctxt.
In addition to the NWC application itself, is there any other software available to convert the files?

I think I missed something.
Once you have your files converted to nwctxt, what's the use?
Are you sure you don't mean mxml?

Anyway, the only ways I know to convert nwc to nwctxt are windows programs, at which point you can use nwc.

As explained in a recent topic, you may install Virtual Box in Ubuntu and create a virtual machine where you install Windows.

Be aware that the memory you assign to the virtual machine has to be taken from the memory that is available in Ubuntu. So, an older version of Windows may be your preferred choice, since these require less memory.
Also make sure the "drive" where your NWC installer and your NWC files are available is mapped in the virtual machine.

You should run through the whole Windows installation, with selection of keyboard, regional settings and all necessary configurations, but once you completed your windows installation (and depending on the version registered or activated it), you have a virtual "full windows machine" in Ubuntu.

Once you have your virtual machine with Windows running, install NWC with the installer, open a NWC file and save it as nwctxt.


An alternative is to install NWC directly in Ubuntu with WINE (or BOTTLES). The installer file should of course be available in Ubuntu, and you can find youtube instructions how to install windows programs this way.

Personnaly, I have troubles with the sound if I install NWC directly, but for converting files to nwctxt format, no sound is needed.
So, you may try this alternative, especially if a virtual machine scares you.

But this doesn't answer my question: what do you do with the .nwctxt files without NWC or NWC viewer?
Ok, it's human readable, but...
Maybe it's an interesting reading before sleeping.  :D

NWC come with a command line convertor  8)

You can convert
  • .nwc
  • .nwctxt
to
  • .nwc
  • .nwctxt
  • .midi
  • .info

Location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Noteworthy Software\NoteWorthy Composer 2\nwc-conv.exe

usage:
Code: [Select · Download]
nwc-conv "in.nwc" NWCTXT > "out.nwctxt"

help:
Code: [Select · Download]
nwc-conv -h

-convert: This option can be used to convert a file from one format to another.
Usage: nwc2.exe -convert "[input-file]" "[output-file]"
Both files are required on the command line and the file extension determines the conversion.
Supported conversions include:
.nwc    -> .nwctxt, .mid, or .info
.nwctxt -> .nwc, .mid, or .info
Conversions to .mid support a "-0" option for type 0 files.

You can invoke the NWC Lua interpreter by adding a -nwcut switch on the command line:
nwc2 -nwcut [YOURTOOL] < nwcfile.nwctxt > outfile.txt 2> errfile.txt
You must provide the redirects, as the program instance will not automatically attach to your current console session.
