I've tried Flurmy's method of getting on to the Newsgroup 2 or 3 times but my user name/password combination is always rejected. Unlike at most web sites that I visit, there appears to be no way of retrieving a forgotten password. Other suggested methods look to difficult for me. Maybe someone on this forum who is still on the Newsgroup could let the other members know that I greatly miss their company. Cheers, John.
Richard has now very kindly gone over my Noteworthy score and sorted out all the repeats, so that it now works perfectly. I should like to take the opportunity to thank Richard and all you good people who made all those helpful suggestions. Cheers, John.
Thanks once again, everyone, for taking so much trouble to help me. I've now sent the relevant file to Richard by email so that he can tell me where I've slipped up. Cheers, John.
Thanks once again Richard, but I've tried various options ending up with a "D" in front of every special ending on all staves and I'm still back to square one in that it just comes to a dead halt at the end of the 1st section of the scherzo after the trio. Any further ideas please?
The Scherzo from Franz Lachner's 8th Symphony that I've been working on,when I try playing it through, goes normally at first observing all the repeats properly until the "da capo" of the scherzo after the trio when it comes to a dead halt at the end of the opening section, despite the "Fine" being placed at the far end of the main Scherzo. I think I have all the repeats and special endings properly sorted out. I just don't know what can have gone wrong now.. Any ideas please? I'd be happy to send the NWC file as an email attachment to anyone who might be able to get it right for me. Sorry to be such a nuisance.
Thanks once again Bill, for all those detailed instructions and also many thanks, Laurie for compiling your Pardy Pack. However, I'm still having great difficulty in adjusting the horizontal position of the 3 sloping lines so that they always go straight across the middle of the note tail. Maybe Noteworthy 3 will be able to implement tremolos and trills directly from their shorthand forms like the more expensive notation programs do; but I doubt if that will happen in my lifetime!
Thanks for the tip Rob. I seem to remember that I tried CCleaner sometime; back but I got rid of it eventually because it didn't seem to be doing much good and was taking up valuable space on my hard disk!
Many thanks for your latest helpful messages Mike and William. Thanks to your tip Mike, about toolbars, I now have my old friends the semibreve through to the hemidemisemiquaver once again at my disposal! I think I'll wait until tomorrow night before tackling the Pardypack William. One other thing I have forgotten though is how to hide staves. Cheers, John.
Many thanks Warren, Richard and William. I'll do what you say and try my luck. I had been experimenting with multiple dashes and equals signs from my keyboard but I could not find away of moving them laterally so that they all stacked up one above the other. On advice from this forum, I downloaded version 2.51a a few days ago and now I can't find the usual notes in the notes tool bar. All there seems to be is a red note symbol which gives alternative fancy note heads that I don't need and a black note symbol which produces a sub menu of different sized notes. I like to be able to click on a particular sized note before inserting it at the appropriate place on the stave, as I have been doing for the last 18 or so years.
Sorry I'm so thick these days, but I am approaching my 84th birthday and I've still no idea how to add extra fonts to Noteworthy. Could someone please virtually hold my had while I attempt to grab hold of the Boxmarks font or any other one that will produce the necessary bars across the note tail to represent a tremolo.
Many thanks for those tips David & Warren. Yes I had remembered about the hidden and muted staves but I couldn't remember all the technical bits. Cheers, John.
Its quite some time since I last used Boxmarks to print out tremolos in shorthand form and I've completely forgotten how to do it. Could someone please explain the procedure from beginning to end, starting with the downloading of Boxmarks and setting them up inside Noteworthy. Cheers, John.
Once again, many thanks everyone for all your helpful suggestions. I've now deleted Malware Bytes and enjoyed two one a half hour crash free sessions on Noteworthy. I'm still puzzled about the version number. Every time I go to "Help, About" it still comes up with version 2.5.5, copyright 2012. Cheers, John.
Many thanks everyone, for all your helpful suggestions. I'll try and answer some of your questions Lawrie. I built my current machine just over 2 years ago (my 1st complete home build at the age of 81) The mobo is an Asus P8Z68-V with an Intel Sandy Bridge Core I 5 processor cooled by an Arctic Freezer i30 ( a bit overkill, as I've never bothered to overclock it). All the storage consists of Crucial M4 SSDs: 128, 2X 256 and 512GB capacity ( I collected them over a period of time as they gradually got bigger and slightly cheaper) There are 16GB of memory on board, and the whole is contained within a spacious Corsair Carbide 500R box. Other software installed include: Sibelius 7, Family Tree Maker 2014, Acronis True Image 2014, Photoshop Elements 8 & 12 and Nero 12. The only one of the HDDs that is anywhere near full up is the smallest one, designated "C", which carries the Windows 7 O/S. As far as I know, Noteworthy is the only program I have had this trouble with lately. I haven't noticed the cooler on the processor to be particularly dusty lately. Maybe I aught to try switching off Malware Bytes next time I use Noteworthy. Cheers, John.
Over the past 20 years or so I've found Noteworthy one of the most stable of programs but, over the last few weeks, it has developed a tendency to crash. In fact I'm lucky to work a whole hour on it without experiencing such a crash. This has led me to feel the need for doing a save every few bars, particularly if I'm copying out some relatively complex music. I'm wondering if this crashing tendency is caused by interference by some of the other software I have on board my computer. In my present set up Noteworthy version 2.55 runs under Windows 7 Pro and my security software consists of Bit Defender total Security 2014 supplemented by Malware Bytes 2014.
Having, due to various problems with my email set up, been away from it for some considerable time, I have been unable to find the Noteworthy Newsgroup lately. Is it still going or has its place been taken by this forum? If that is so, can we upload samples of our work here for criticism by other members?
Thanks Peter, I was aware of this, in fact I have seen natural horns and their crooks in a museum. However, I wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing in leaving the key signature blank when copying out this mid nineteenth century score. I gather that, if I give the E flat horns a transposition in Noteworthy of plus 3 and the B flat horns and trumpets minus 2, any necessary accidentals in the original score will be enough to keep the playback going correctly and I can change the transpositions if I want to re-write them for modern chromatic instruments. Cheers, John.
Many thanks, gentlemen, for all your helpful suggestions. I muted all staves except the clarinets, then I added in the other woodwinds one by one(or should I say, "2 by2"? ) After letter "C" on the score the sound got nastier and nastier. I checked and re- checked changes of clef then, all of a sudden, I noticed at the start of the next page of the score I had been copying from that the general key signature had changed from G major to G minor! Had this occurred in the middle of a page, I'd have picked it up right away. Everything now sounds quite melodious once again, as it should do, since the symphony I'm copying out for the Scriptorium was written back in 1851! By the way, I'm wondering what I should do about the horns and trumpets that are traditionally written with no key signature. Should I really be doing the same for them as I do for the clarinets? That is, if they are in B flat and the key is G major, should I give them a key signature of A major with 3 sharps etc. ? Cheers, John.
I reckon I've done the right thing David, in copying out from the original score and transposing the B flat clarinets -2 steps; so I shall now try your solution Warren, and let you know what I find. I still suspect that I might have pressed a wrong butten somewhere. Cheers, John.
On the orchestral piece I am currently copying out into Noteworthy 2.5 the playback has taken on a harsh dissonant tone. I suspect it might be something to do with the transposing instruments. For example, the general key signature being G major with one sharp and the B flat clarinet stave having the 3 sharps A major key signature, I put the transposition as minus 2. Everything seemed to sound all right on playback at first but, coming back to it after a few days rest, I get the dissonant playback as mentioned above. Have I accidentally pressed a wrong button somewhere, causing the transposing instruments to sound as written instead of at concert pitch?
