'Page Break' in Printing


Does anyone know how to create a page break when printing?

A score here needs to start a given bar/measure at the top of the next page when it's sent to the printer.

The Editor's "Force System Break (Top Staff only)" works as expected -- it forces the break in the flow and begins the next bar/measure at the left margin.

But what we need is to get that bar/measure to begin on a new page in the printout.

I've tried various combinations of "Force System Break", including inserting some with hidden barlines, but haven't found a solution.

It isn't an issue in the NWC Editor or Viewer.  The need is to get a physical page break to a new sheet of paper when printing to paper.

Any way to accomplish this?

There are 4 muted, headless semibreves (whole notes) that take time during playback.  I'll let you figure out a way to minimise/eliminate the time taken.  :D

Highlight 7 needs to be set to white for this example.

My thoughts on what Noteworthy should do are <here>.

The most stable way to force a page break is to split the song into two files. File 1 contains everything before the mandatory break, file 2 contains everything after. This gives independent control of the spacing between systems. The result is usually more pleasant than forcing a large amount of space somewhere.

Sometimes, a good layout can be had by forcing the Title to use more space as I describe <here>. See the attachment. Page Title font is set to 144pts. Adjust as needed ...

Lawrie's method (above) works sometimes, but could use some refinement. Instead of the "4 muted, headless semibreves", you can use hidden 64th rests. You may want to hide the clefs and key signatures and reinstate them later. Lawrie's method interferes with the Viewer, so if you need a separate view file, you might as well split it into two files.

Of course, you can always fiddle with the staff sizes and page margins. Sometimes you get lucky ...

Where you only have one page break to force and the system has only one staff, this attachment shows some promise.

In my defence, I threw this together in about 5 minutes between other things at my desk at my office this afternoon...  :)

Many thanks for the inputs.  I had already tried the hidden rests, along with much fiddling with fonts and margins. 

Unfortunately it's a multiple-staff piece that has to go along with some other similar pieces (so they all need to look fairly alike).  Finally I just wound up living without the printed page break.
