Mixed lyric font characteristics - bold, italic, underlined & etc.

What is needed to change the lyric font characteristics on a word by word basis rather than globally?  Gee it looks as if I can do it in this post but not in the lyric line.

Yup, that's about the size of it...

At the present time, you could only achieve what you want with a specialist font that has the characters modified the way you want - makes it a bit hard to share...

There are fonts in the Scriptorium that combine Regular and Italic

G'day again Bruce,
just had a thought... You could always use |Insert|Text| and line it up with the lyrics...  Use an underscore in the lyric editor as a placemarker so as to leave some space for your text entry - A bit kludgy I know but it should be effective.

Much as I can appreciate the wish for word processing features in the lyric editor, I think Rick's idea of using a specialty font from the Scriptorium is about as far as I'd want to see NWC go.

I don't want NWC to  be so powerful in non-essential features that it destroys the simplicity of the learning curve and becomes massive too. 

I like the fact that I can upgrade in seconds.  I fear that the more sophisticated the program becomes, the more expensive the product will be, because Eric would need more people to develop and support the bells and whistles.

The big selling points for NWC is its ease of use, work arounds, user forums, and elegant simplicity. Let's keep it  that way. [move](Except my wishes should be fulfilled, of course!)  (;->) [/move]

You could also export to .emf, then import the .emf into openoffice.org Draw, and add the text through post-processing.

I've done this with a few hymns. Works well, but plan on an hour a page to get it right.

I think that this idea will add an unneccessary burden on NWC.

Oh well... would it really be that big a burden? Since every syllable is always attached to a note, a note could have a new property, being "how do you want the text for this note?" if other than default.

In this way, I think the consequences are overseeable. Sometimes I want the height of the syllable to vary. To accomplish this now, I set the note to Lyrics, Never. Then I add some text with the x command, and adjust heigt to taste. Cumbersome.
Simple things like relative vertical position and maybe point size would help greatly.

My reason for wanting to change font characteristics was to show the stressed lyric within a musical phrase.  That stress can / should be added during rehearsal and performance to make the performance more musical.  I just was looking for a way to get that lyrical stress recorded on the music.  Volume, tempo and other characteristics which make a performance can be noted on the music.  The performer can use or reject the suggestions as desired.  I would like some way to do the same with the lyric line without becoming too cumbersome. Just being able to change one font characteristic, like bold on the fly would do the trick.

This is quite a common problem but you can get round it quite easily by layering multiple staves with the lyrics set at different heights.
