Different spacing for dotted notes stem up and stem down

In the last beta version (beta 2.10) of NWC2 the representation of dotted notes has a different spacing stem up and stem down, which is annoying when layering staffs with one staff stem up and the other stem down.

I don't see it in a simple example.  Can you post a screen shot or a file that illustrates the problem, please?

There should'nt be any double dots, only single dotts.

I copied this clip onto a staff, added a new staff, copied it onto that, set the 2nd staff with stems down (first staff with stems up), then layered the two together.

And yes, there are dots all over the place.  And the placement is not consistent.  Some of the notes have double dots (where there should be a single dot) next to each other; others have single dots offset from each other in different staff spaces; others have single dots vertically in line with each other in different staff spaces.  But they are all the same notes; only the stem direction is different.

It surely doesn't look right to me.  Layering has always been one of the great strengths of NWC, so we shouldn't break this as we resolve the great dot wars of 2006.

Ironically, you get slightly different results if you "chord" the same notes on the same staff (not a layered staff) with each note having opposite stems.

The horizontal alignment problem is the result of putting the dots after the flag on upstem notes.
I discussed this as problem #3 in:
https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=5814.msg37951#msg37951

I would rather have the dots on upstem flags horizontally where they are in 1.75b
The Beta 2.10 placement makes the dotted upflag note take up too much space.

Specifically, this looks better in 1.75b:
Code: [Select · Download]
!NoteWorthyComposerClip(2.0,Single)
|Bar
|Note|Dur:4th|Pos:-1
|Note|Dur:8th,Dotted|Pos:-1
|Rest|Dur:16th
|Note|Dur:Half|Pos:-1
|Bar
!NoteWorthyComposerClip-End
It could look even better in NWC2 if this problem were addressed:

I kniw I'm "bucking the trend" here.  Most of the music since about 1970,  puts the dots after.

Two vertically aligned dots on a unison chord where the notehead is on a staff line is not unheard of.  See:
https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=5761.msg37793#msg37793
This entire thread is worth a read.  A look at the beta newsgroup will help.

IMO, any fixed handling of this will not please everyone.  If dots over/under cannot be specified for each note/chord, it should be an option at the staff level.  This might require a few extra staves but at least, it would be correct.

I could probably live with the two vertically aligned dots (although, if I were sight-reading, it would give me a pause).  However, having two single dots result in two horizontally aligned dots is just wrong (and that happens whether you layer or do it on the same staff).
