Beaming difficulty [Slightly Related to Automatic Beam Tool]

I include, perhaps, a bit more context than is necessary, but how should the second bar of this:

Code: [Select · Download]

|Key|Signature:F#
|TimeSig|Signature:4/4
|Instrument|Name:"Banjo"|Patch:105|Trans:0|DynVel:10,30,45,60,75,92,108,127|Pos:0|Wide:Y
|Dynamic|Style:mp|Pos:-8
|Rest|Dur:Half
|Rest|Dur:4th
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:5|Opts:Stem=Down,Beam=First
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:5|Opts:Stem=Down,Beam=End
|Bar
|Note|Dur:8th|Pos:6|Opts:Stem=Down
|Rest|Dur:8th
|Note|Dur:16th|Pos:4|Opts:Stem=Down
|Note|Dur:16th|Pos:3|Opts:Stem=Down
|Note|Dur:8th,Dotted|Pos:2|Opts:Stem=Down

be beamed, given it has that odd syncopation? The automatic beam option, isolating the dotted eighth, seems an awkward way to deal with it

Split the dotted 1/8th F# into 1/8th -tie- 1/16th and use automatic beam.

I agree with Rick.  The bigger issue, though, is that NWC should not autobeam just a sixteenth with an 8th in a common time bar.

Ah, aye, that makes sense. Would it be wise to write it that way in the vocal line as well, even if it's unbeamed?

I think so.  Nestico's Complete Arranger suggests never beaming across major beats such as 1 and 3 in a 4-4 bar.  The key is that the musician should be able to clearly see the subdivision of a bar at a glance. IMHO

Aye, makes sense. And might cause difficulty in reading if I left the syncopation non-explicit. Right then!
