Boxmarks Font

I was just wondering if someone could explain exactly how to enter the boxmark fonts into a piece of music. If you could please, tell me exactly, step-by-step, how to enter bowing directions for a stringed instrument. Thanks,

You have to instal the font first.  Then go to Page Setup, Fonts, and select one of the user fonts, modify it to Boxmarks, which will be one of your choices.

In the score, wherever you want the symbol, enter text (x), entering the letter that corresponds to the symbol you want, then select the right userfont.

You can tweak it a bit, a rehearsal letter should be placed after the bar line, right justified. You can also move the symbol up and down, by highlighting it and using the shift and up/down arrows.

Some user fonts found in the Scriptorium include downward smears ( \ ) or lip slurs.  These generally follow a note, but I find it works best to enter them ahead of the note, pad them with a few spaces, and choose "at next note/bar" for alignment.  The ones that come before the note can be right justified, and if needs be, padded with a couple of spaces.

I find Boxmark2 suits my needs a bit better than Boxmarks, but each user's needs will differ.

Missed the last part of your question - I'm not familiar with bowing instructions, but I think the letter u (lower case) may be the one you're looking for.  It's an inverted square cup; I didn't see a rightside up version of that symbol, if it exists in string music.

If you downloaded the Boxmarks zip file there is a text file with instructions in the zip.
This has a reference for the font keystrokes.

Thanks, but is there a non-zip file of Boxmarks2? I can't open zip files on our computer, so it would be helpful if there was a non-zipped version of the font. Thanks,

Odds are that a non-zipped version won't help you. If a font file (extension *.ttf) is sent directly by download or Email attachment, the transmission may erroneously convert the data to the wrong type (ASCII vs. binary).

If the only problem is that you don't have an un-zip program, there are (legitimate) free ones available all over the Internet.

But before you say you can't unzip, what happens if you simply double-click the zip file? If your computer attempts to unzip but fails, then it means the file was corrupted (again, ASCII vs. binary) during transmission or reception. See if you can download to floppy from another computer.

I found a freeware program on the internet. I can now unzip files. Thanks for your help,

Could you explain the part about switching the font to boxmarks?
I really dont get it.
And when I looked in the sample, and I typed in new text expressions, (with font set to User 2-Boxmarks in the example) it doesnt do the right equivalent.
Somebody help??

Find the font you want on the Scriptorium, if you don't already have it.  Download it to a particular folder.  Then (these are the instructions from Win98):

To add a new font to your computer
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Fonts.
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
Click the drive, and then click the folder that contains the fonts you want to add.
Click the font you want to add.

You now have the font installed, and all you do in NWC is go to File/PageSetup/Fonts, select the description of the font you want to change, and click Modify.

You can change all of the fonts, not just the userfonts.  Keep in mind though, that the program defined fonts such as "Page Title" have a designated use and whatever you do will show up in your printed output.
