No MIDI Input Selection

I got a weird problem,

I was able to use MIDI input and notate music through my keyboard. Now, Noteworthy Composer and my other MIDI programs (like Cakewalk) doesn't recognize my MIDI Input from my keyboard. It says the name of the input and when i try to select it says that the device is failing to open. This also is a problem for Recording MIDI. My sound card is a Sound Blaster 16 and I have a Technics keyboard. My computer is a Windows 98. Can anyone help me?

By the way, my MIDI Outputs work just fine.

I was getting info on how to fix this prob on Cakewalk, but the MIDI cable came out of the joystick port and now when I plug it in, no sound is produced, and the computer doesn't even respond to both, MIDI In and Out now.

I had the same problem. One day it was working and the next no MIDI input was available on cakewalk and sibelius...anyone have an answer?

With Windows 98, rightclick the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen and check the audio properties and sound controls.

I don't know what system the other people who've responded are using, it's always a good idea to explain your setup when seeking a solution.  I suspect it's software related if the soundcard did allow midi input/output before you unplugged the midi cable.

Regardless, go here http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/nwcforum/ and just type the word midi in the search window.  You'll likely find your solutions there.
