NWC on Linux

My computer does not support Windows 11.
Sadly NWC never provided a version for Linux. :(

Nevertheless I installed Linux on an external USB drive and if I unplug the USB drive, I can still boot in Windows 10.

I have chosen for Linux Mint and I must admit that after using it for some weeks now, I begin to prefer it over Windows 10.  :o

To be able to run NWC, I installed Oracle Virtual Box with an old Windows XP (no activation needed) and installed my copy of NWC.
Now NWC works also perfect on Linux :)

If I remember correctly, long ago I installed ubuntu and I run NWC on wine without problems.

Yes, I tried this also several years ago, but first I needed Timidity to get (bad) sound, then wine and after a reboot, my configuration was lost and I needed to configure it again. Not really useful in my opinion.

With a virtual machine on my new Linux and an old Windows XP, there is no hassle at all.

I'd rather deal with Wine than XP, personally. I'm on Mint and use Fluidsynth for the MIDI. Timidity didn't want to work well. I'm happy to compare notes if you want to give it another go.

Well, I tried again, now with Fluidsynth and Wine, and it is "working".
But the sound is clunky as if the hardware cannot follow the notes.
Caverns, one of the most beautiful samples, hurts my ears badly!
Nothing seems to exceed Virtual Box with an old version of Windows XP, where the sound is normal (=perfect).

One downside to mention for Linux Mint with a virtual machine on windows xp and NWC :

Chasing notes doesn't work well. The visual information is one or two beats behind the sound.
Not perfect, but a minor issue.

Some updates on NWC under Linux

As suggested by Francis, I have also tried to install NWC in Linux via Wine (in fact I use Bottles to be completely correct) with the FluidSynth sound driver.

At first I had some strange interruptions during playback, but after trying to increase the priority of FluidSynth, these interruptions disappeared.  :D

Second I couldn't "print" my scores, because no printer driver could be found under Bottles. But this is now also solved by installing CUPS (Common Unix Printing system) in Linux Mint Chris Titus Tech: Installing Printers in Linux and then the printer driver can be found also in Bottles.
And after installing "printer-driver-cups-pdf" also generating PDF files is possible. :D

I wasn't able to do "Automatic upgrade", but I downloaded the upgrade file from NWC, placed it in a location where the "NWC-bottle" could reach the exe-file and ran the upgrade flawlessly there. :D

I also copied user tools from the original location to the NWC-bottles location and configured them in NWC. So I can now also run the usertools that are most valuable for me. :D

The only minor issue is that the path to the files generated in NWC Bottles is very long:
/home/<username>/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/nwc.exe/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/NoteWorthy Composer/, but that's maybe because I didn't use the best configuration when installing Bottles and NWC.

I think I will do my NWC work in the future with Bottles, and not any more in a virtual machine.  8)

Yuk! :o

Thank you for sharing.
I'm just installing Debian13...
