thanks to those who helped me with my midi interface problem. now that i've got that going, i have another query.

is there any way to save nwc files as .mid files? when i tried it before it failed to work properly.

Yes, it is possible:
use [File]/[Export] menu item to do this.
You also may want to change the MIDI export settings in [Tools]/[Options...], File tab, MIDI section. Refer to online help there to know which settings you'd prefer.
