Notes without stems

Can anyone tell me how to write notes without stems?

Not sure exactly what you mean but you can alter the length of the stem (even down to zero length) . Highlight the note , and go into the note properties (ALT plus Enter key) . Go to the notes tab and then click the Override stem length box.
Use the spinner to change length to zero.

The note stem will now have the invisible colour in the editor but will not print out and will not appear in a print preview, nor will it be visible in viewer mode.
