Linda,

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Are the chord symbols text representations of the chord and if so, are they just text versions using the text expression functionality or did you use lyrics to enter the symbols.

If you are using the large red minus icon to delete the symbol, then this is not the correct thing to do. This icon deletes the entire staff (possibly why every thing is deleted!!!!).

Can you explain exactly what you have and what you are doing to delete the symbol?
Rich.

If you're trying to delete one note out of a chord containing several notes, the secret is to place the cursor directly to the right of the note you want to delete and press <ctrl><backspace>.

Too existential for me :)
Ctrl+Backspace only works on Chords and Rest Chords.

When there is no selection:
  • If Backspace removes the wrong thing, press Ctrl+Z and move the cursor horizontally.
  • If Ctrl+Backspace doesn't remove a note, move the cursor vertically.
  • If 2 notes occupy the same postion and Ctrl+Backspace removes the wrong note, remove both notes and re-enter the correct note.
  • Ctrl+Backspace will never remove a Rest from a Rest Chord.
