No sounds coming from NWC

I installed NWC on my computer recently, after having to wipe my hard drive(s), and i am having trouble. I'm not sure if i downloaded a bad file or something, but my NWC looks different from what it did when i had it previously, all the i-cons have a weird color to them, I.E. they use to be black with a gray background now they are white with a gray background. Also, I seem to not be getting any playback sound coming from NWC, I've checked volume settings and reinstalled the program, twice. I've also changed settings on the midi playback option in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio.

I run a 32 Bit windows XP pro
with a Realtec AC97 Audio soundcard

None of my other programs I.E. Games, or internet browser, give me trouble with sound playback.

NoteWorthy uses Windows' MIDI subsystem to play *.nwc files.

If there are no 'Available play devices', the problem is with the MIDI subsystem and must be corrected.

To test the MIDI subsystem (with WinXP):

  • Open a copy of Explorer (WinKey+E)
  • Navigate to Windows\Media
  • Run (WinKey+R) mplay32 This should open 'Media Player'
  • Drag one of the *.mid files in Windows\Media and drop it on Media Player

You should be able to hear the MIDI file as it plays.

If not, here is Microsoft's official word on the subject:
