Re: Drum Notation Software

G'day drummer_tom,
You can get a fairly good display with NWC2. x and diamond noteheads are available and if you look at any of my *Dings suites on the Scripto (http://nwc-scriptorium.org/helpful.html#Fonts) there are extra symbols to help, like a circle to go around the "x" notehead for a Crash Cymbal and + and o to indicate closed or open Hats. Of course, these must be added as text.
Two methods will work fairly well:
- Have a muted display staff with everything in the right place for the drummer to read and then have a hidden, sounding staff with the notes in the right place for MIDI
- Use multiple layered staves with staff transpositions in effect so that the written notes look correct, and because of the staff transpositions, they sound right.
Neither is perfect, but the first will probably give you the best visual results.
There is a template for the second method here: https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=5914.msg38773#msg38773 - you will need one of my *Dings suites - I think the sample is using SwingDings.
Ideally, NWC will eventually do drum notation correctly all by itself.
