How to Arpeggiate A Chord? HELP

i need to know if it's possible to make the vertical squiggle-line symbol you put in front of a chrod to indicate it's arpeggiated, and to have that sound. currently i'm just using 64th notes to get that sound, but i want to know if there's an easier way, or will be in NWC2

Hello Kei,

The first key technique, which is broader than just spread chords, is that if both the sound and the appearance of your file are important, then you need to have two copies of each staff. In the staff properties, you set one to the appropriate MIDI instrument you want, and you leave the other with no instrument assigned. The one that has no instrument assigned, obviously is for appearance. The one with the instrument assigned you make invisible in the page setup (obviously after you have finished editing.) So, on the visible silent staff, you put the symbols such as trills, mordents, spread chords and the like. All these symbols are placed using the ordinary text object, but to get the necessary symbols you need the special fonts. There are a collection of such fonts available at the Scriptorium Helpful files page on the following link.

On the sounding staff you enter notes appropriately to generate the effect you want. So for a trill, you must enter the notes exactly as they would be played. And yes, for a spread chord you essentially have to write it out as it would be played. My personal tip would be not to just assume you want to use the fastest possible notes - you need to experiment until you get the sound effect you want but you may be surprised by the note duration that gives the effect you want.

More expert users than me have suggested techniques for creating a spread chord sound. Find them in the user tips at these links:

If you can use NWC2 version, you can also have a look at the usertools, there is one that does it for you.
Its name is nwsw_ArpeggiateChord.
