This means that your MIDI cables are likely hooked up in the correct orientation (which is the most common mistake).

The rest of your settings appear to be correct. Have you enabled "MIDI Input Active" on the Tools menu?

To record from a keyboard in NWC you must have at least one staff already in the file.  I find it helpful if that staff is a "click track", that is, one that has quarter notes or whatever your beat value is at whatever tempo you choose, with a percussion instrument.  I use wood block.  This helps you play in time with the meter to get reasonably good looking notation in your recorded staves.  You can experiment with the values of notes and rests in the Import and Record options to quantize, or clean-up or round-off rhythmically your playing to the nearest even note values, instead of getting lots of double-dotted notes with 32nd or 64th notes.

...just deselect in a second

From memory this is correct...  If there is no "click" track or if it finishes it stops recording...

Everything seems to be right - Is it possible that the midi cable has a problem?  Maybe the keyboard end only has a midi out connector?

Do you need to enable midi output on the keyboard?

I'm guessing, can you tell?

Yes, too many 'Franks'  on this forum, so now i'll be UK Frank :-)

You haven't extended the midi cables, have you ? I have done this, but it can be a problem.

Also, Midi will not work during song playback, song stop, song recording, song record stand-by or the song rehearsal mode.

Has the Transmit Track been set to 'Off' - No data transmitted ?
(If it has, this setting would be remembered, even if switched off)

If you think it might be a keyboard setting, and you don't mind LOSING your settings and USER songs, you could try re-setting to the factory defaults.
Press the highest White key on the keyboard, while turning on the power. "CLr Back Up" will appear briefly on the display

Hi Joni,
I can only think of a few things at the moment that you probably should test so you can narrow down where the problem actually is:

  • Try and test with another midi cable - perhaps your midi cable is faulty - can you borrow another one?
  • Can you try a different midi keyboard.  Preferably one that is known to work elsewhere
  • Can you take your keyboard and cable and test on someone else's computer, OR
  • Can you take your keyboard and test with another midi device - E.G. another keyboard (this would require a different midi cable)
What I'm suggesting is a series of tests to make sure that your computer midi interface, your keyboards' midi interface and your cable are all working correctly.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

Hi
i guess that maybe the cable is the problem.
i must buy another one and see what happen.
By the way, i tryied with another soundcard (SB audigy ZS 2)
and trying configurations and it keeps bad.
So maybe is the midi cable.
Anyway, a friend of mine told me that his midi cable worked after 3 days of testing configurations xD
But this dont work even in finale, so it must be the cable.
Thanks
