Mp3 Files??

I just downloaded nwc today,
and i wanted to know, is there anyway i can use mp3 files and see their notes?
or somwhow to convert them into files the program can use?
there are a lot of songs on my computer and i can't use any of them because it dosen't recognize the type of the file.

Unfortunately this can't be done Latush. As someone has said before it is a bit like trying to reconstitute a whole egg from a scrambled egg.

It can be done. YOu onely need a program to convert your MP3's to MIDI files. I am still looking for a good convertor.

There IS something that can do this.
It's called the human brain.
Listen to the music, then enter it into NWC.
Imagine where we'd be right now if our Founding Fathers were always looking for the easy way out...

midi2wav is the best recorder software and he records in wave file then you can convert with an other progam to mp3

Sorry to be a pain bertie but Latush is looking for mp3 or wave to midi, not the other way around. Bobby idea is great if you have that kind of trained ear. Wish I did....

Barry, you too can have that kind of trained ear.  Enroll in a college course, or you can take private lessons from someone like me!  Or, you can develop your ear for free if you listen, listen, listen to lots and lots of music.  Some people like to play along on an instrument.  If you use this method, you must be prepared to make TONS of errors, but not be afraid of making them.  After about 20,000 mistakes you may not ever make another - and then you'll always know what to do.

Hi Bobby. Thanks for the encouragement. I have been playing the clarinet for many years, play in an orchestra and have even done some music exams but have always thought that my ear was not good enough to recognise and write down music. I have now started to try it with simple tunes, a lot of trial and even more error but there is an improvement. Will persist. As for coming to you for lessons it may be a bit far as I live in South Africa. Best wishes - Barry

Some will never learn. I fear that I will never be able to work out the chords of 'Mein Hund ist schwul', however beautifully it is sung by a German quartet. I have tried 'Yes we have no bananas' as the Muppets did it, and that worked quite well.

Conclusion: from MP3 or WAV to Midi or NWC takes a trained ear, a lot of patience, some luck, and hard work.

Barry:

Transciption is not that difficult with the right tools.
"Amazing Slowdowner" from http://www.ronimusic.com is a good start. It allows you to loop short sections - by repetition you can hear what you are listening for.

Listen to the song and determine the layout.
Mark the start and end of each section on manuscript.

Start by transcribing the bass line throughout don't do anything else until the bass line is complete.
Raising the pitch an octave may help pull the bass line up out of the mud.

Next transcribe the melody or lead line throughout.

Then transcribe the lead line of any background or counter point figures.

By now you should have a bare outline of the chord structure.

Now try and pick out some of the other notes in melody and background harmony comparing them with your "first guess" at the basic chord structure - modifying where necessary.
Play what you think you hear while playing back a looped section of the song through the speakers- if your notes fit the harmony add them to the score.

The final result may not be exactly the original but the resulting score will be pretty close in sound.

Whatever mate. There's no such thing. An MP3 or WAV is a recording. You can possibly turn it into notation unless as Bobby said. you use your brain and wor out each section. When I do this. I start off with the Drum line, copy it as close as I can from start to finish, and then the bass, etc etc...

Those links came up on google.com when I searched for "wav to midi."

The concensus appears to be that (if these programs work,) they will work with single voice wav files only.  IE, a voice or a wind instrument playing solo.  Still, if you play a wind instrument but don't play keyboards, and want to transcribe someone's charts, maybe this type of software will be save time entering notes into NWC.
