Tied notes

I'm trying to tie two notes together across a barline and the following criteia listed in the "help" system have already been met:

1.    One, and only one, note or chord is selected
2.    The adjacent note or chord to the right includes a note at the same position on the staff.

And yet, after chosing the single note that is to be tied to the adjacent note on the right, the "tied" option remains grayed-out in the "notes" menu.

Any suggestions?

Didn't you choose the bar line together with the note?

You have accurately described how to add a tie after the notes are placed.

If you have trouble, for whatever reason, you can simply delete the note in question and re-add it after turning on the tie attribute.
