Phrasing between staves 2004-06-17 01:04 am Suppose I want to create a phrase that goes from the left hand to the right on a piano riff, or to slur between staves. Is there a font out there that will enable me to do this? Thanks for your help. DGF Quote Selected
Re: Phrasing between staves Reply #1 – 2004-06-17 08:45 am It is possible to do this in NWC without recourse to other things- a bit tricky but possible <g>Create a staff that will be hidden. Write the notes on the top staff which should be on the lower staff (doesn't matter about the pitch) shift them down to the correct place on the lowerstaff, beam or slur, than edit the note properties / mute / no ledger lines. The sounding notes are then put at the right pitch on the 'hidden staff'Note. If the notes are slurred, make sure the slur on the hidden staff matches.HTHTina Quote Selected

Re: Phrasing between staves Reply #3 – 2004-06-18 04:06 pm Tinia is trying to say that in NWC (1 or 2), each staff is independent. You can't do phrasing (or beam notes) from one staff to another, since they don't "connect" except in terms of visual alignment.NWC2 allows tilted slurs, so I assume you want to do this in NWC2.Attach your slur (phrase) to "fake notes" that are horizontally positioned as needed on a single staff. Then, position the "fake notes" vertically, so that they overlap more than one staff. View the result in print preview, not just on screen.Tina suggested one way to "fake" notes. I use this method (in NWC2 only): Choose invisible note-heads. Shrink the stems to the minimum length. Mute the notes. This effectively makes the notes disappear, visually and audibly, but leaves the slur visible (rather like the Cheshire Cat: the grin remains). It is best to do this on an extra staff that you layer with one of the other staves, so that you can make changes to the fake notes without interfering with the real notes.A similar method can be used to beam across staves, but here the positioning is much trickier. Re: Phrasing between staves Reply #4 – 2004-06-19 08:33 pm This points out a need for linked systems to allow licks to run from one staff to another. One for the wish list, I guess.Paired systems would be the feature most in demand, but I think it would be nice to have multiple linked systems too for greater flexibility, so we could used the linked staffs together with layered ones.
