real time entry

Please, one more question here. I have read everything on "real time" entry and just can't seem to get it going.

Step entry is working fine..what would be the exact directions for "real time entry".. I'm confused by the recording over playback thing and making a new dummy song to record with....How do I do all of that? Thanks
