Muted Staffs

I have two pieces by two different artists that have muted staffs, yet when I play them, those staffs are audible. I've studied them at great length. What am I missing? Cannot determine how this works. Have tried dynamics, tempos, and so on. Any clues will be appreciated.

Go to File-Page Setup and unhide any hidden staffs. These hidden staffs are the ones you actually are hearing but their notation comes out messy to get the proper sound. The visible staffs that are muted are formatted to print with proper notation but would not sound correct musically, the reason being that many musical directions such as trills are only text items and as such will not cause a trill to be heard. The trill must be entered manually as individual notes, which would look awful on a printed score. HTH!

I checked. There are no hidden staffs. Go to the scriptorium and download "Sonata #11" for piano from the Mozart section. Thanks.

The scripto's Sonata No. 11 does not have any muted staves in it.

When you mute a staff, it becomes absolutely silent during play back. Tempo changes, however, will still be performed.

If you go to staff properties for either staff, then select Midi, the check box for "Muted" is marked. There is a check in the Staff menu, and the icon on the toolbar is active.

Yes, you are right, the visible staffs are indeed mute: no, you are wrong, there are two hidden staves.

Click on Page Setup (the open score icon)/contents and check the hidden box, and all will be revealed!

We must be looking at different scripto files.

Either way, a muted staff will not sound during play.
