meter situation

Okay, so I have this chart with no score, see, and I enters alls da parts into NWC, see, and thens I notice that in this particlar measure the 1st trombone has a dotted half note tied to an eighth followed by an eighth rest.  The second, third, and fourth trombones have a half note tied to a dotted quarter followed by an eighth rest.  I mean, mathematically speaking, they are the same thing, right?  Why does the first trombone cut off after the other three?
And is this a jazz idiom that they really mean two different things?

Couldda been that because the same digital instrument is used on eacha the tracks, yer computer gotta turn em off one by one. Whatsa situation if ya use different instruments, or if ya save as midi and play it from there (cuz the midi ain't gotta also show the notes, might happen faster)?

Da situation's da same even wit different instruments, or if I saves it as a midi and plays it from dere, see.  (And in the original scenario, the three lower trombones did cut off eggzackly together...no turnin' 'em off one by one.)
