Beams, stems, and lyrics

I use staff layering feature (I am using 4 staves-each labeled: SATB- to split the chords) instead of the satb temp and I have a question:

Is there a way to shorten beams and note stems (instead of changing the directions cause beamed eighth notes look a lot like 16th notes when you split chords into multiple staves and layer them) so that they do not block the lyrics when printed?

I do SATB all the time with NWC. The short answer: NWC 1.75 cannot shorten stems. I do it myself by creating placeable WMFs (from print preview) and editing the graphics in a compatible program. The "compatible program" has to have serious drawing capability.

The feature in question is one that has been requested on the wish list. Maybe it will appear at some future time.

Don't know of any way to shorten the beams.

I usually just play with the "Vertical Size" under Staff Properties to give the staff additional space. That function, and/or lyric alignment offsets if preferred, are also available under the Lyrics configuration tab.
