again, beaming problem

I've been reading messages here, and there were problems that I have now.
The problem was raised 5 years ago (it said), but I didn't get the solution for it. (or I just missed it.)
The problem is beaming 8th notes stem up and down.
I am using ver 1.70, and on same staff (same measure)
I beamed 8th notes. And I added chord notes below the beamed ones (of course, the added ones have stem downward).
But I can't beam the downward stems. If I select the notes, and select the beam down button, then the downward stems are beamed, but the upward ones become separated.
And of course, if I select stem up button, then the beam goes up, and downward stems become separated.
Is there anyway that both stems can be beamed?
Or has it not been solved?
(or it has been solved, but I just missed it?)

This problem - and many others relating to multiple voices - was solved by the Staff Layering feature in V1.7 and beyond. Layering gives full control over each voice, and is a very powerful facility.

If the multiple voices are very simple, then the old system is sometimes adequate. However, the layering feature is highly recommended for anything more complex.

I also suggest upgrading to V1.75, there have been many improvements since V1.70.
