Pick up Lyrics

My main use for NWC is 4 part choral-type arrangements, which I do on a 2 staff system. I have a problem putting lyrics with pick up notes that are not in the melody line (and not on the same staff as the lyrics). Is there an easy way to do this?

I am not exactly clear on what you are trying to do. In general, tricks in manipulating the lyric are based on using the underscore to either connect two different lyric syllables, thus making them one, or to create empty syllables that skip some notes in a score. Consult the help file for details on these characters and what they do.

The tricks I use are:

* Underscores in the lyric lines (which compress several syllables into one spot...even if the display isn't technically correct, musicians can usually figure it out. Even singers :-)

* Slurring (ctrl+u) notes lets you skip placement of a syllable

* Adding text (X) when there's a "do-wop" or something.

* Giving up and breaking out to four bars when it gets too complicated.

It would be nice if there was a way to automatically "compress" independent bars into a standard piano system, but this feature would be difficult to implement. Maybe I should submit to the wish list: implement and publish a plug-in architecture!
