joining systems with different number of staves, for printing.

Hello all,
I've recently purchased Noteworthy, and am still a novice at using it.  I wonder if someone can help me with a problem I'm having at the moment.  I'm trying to edit a NWC file, which consists of 13 stave systems, so that I only print out the relevant parts - which are on occasions, 2, 3, 8, etc staves.  The only way I've found of doing this so far is to copy bits of the file as wmfs and paste them into a word document, which is very time consuming.  Is there any way of joining 13-stave systems to, say, 8-stave systems in Noteworthy?
Any help would be gratefully received.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly but File|Page Setup|Contents seems to be the solution for your case;

Uncheck the staves you do not wish to print. They won't be deleted; just will be hidden.

If that's not the case, please ask.

PS: Have you downloaded the Command Summary from the Scriptorium?

Perhpas the original question referred to (say) a choral piece with instrumental accompaniment. From time to time, there are instrumental interludes, with choir silent. There is no reason to print the vocal staves with numerous rests.

As you noted, that is done with WMFs from NWC. You can also use the "copy special" command under certain circumstances. Either way, you need to paste the result into a word processor or similar program.

I use WMFs all the time, for just that purpose. Admittedly it takes longer than having it under internal control, but the results are good. If you find that you are using WMFs often, check out the free Open office software at http://www.openoffice.org
It does a better job (in my opinion) at handling WMFs than does MS Word.

Thanks, Ertugrul, but the problem is as Robert stated in reply #2.  It looks as if wmfs have to be the answer.  Anyway, thanks very much for your time.

Thanks, Robert.  I suspected that wmfs would be the only answer.  I'll try the Open Office, thanks for the advice.

WMFs are not the only answer (but maybe the best for many folks).
I had to create such a score for a performance last year, and what I did was to break the file into many smaller files, one with measures 1-10 showing only organ, one with mm11-17 showing organ, alto, and tenor, one with mm18-23 showing organ, alto, soprano, and bass.  You get the idea.
This also meant putting the same page through the printer three times...

Wyatt's response reminds me... If you are using WMFs as described above, it is useful to have the different sections in different NWC files. This avoids the need to insert rests to keep the staves on-track, and reduces visual distraction within NWC. Since the sections are printed separately, they may as well be different files. The exception would be if you intend to save as MIDI; in that case, use just one file for all.

If you do try Open Office, you can edit the WMFs, not just place them. The trick is to open the WMF, select it, modify to contour, then enter the group.

I'll try that.  I guess that means I have to change the top margin each time I send it through the printer.
