How come nobody uses the forum anymore?

I'd like to know the reason for the sudden decline of people using this forum! I thought it was really fun and entertaining to read what people had to say. But not anymore!

Well, I haven't been here for a couple weeks cuz my nephew died.
After that I thought "What's the point?"
Now I'm back, but I wonder why...

Well, if you want information about using NWC, it may simply be that there are few problems needing to be solved. But if what you want is FUN and ENTERTAINMENT, here we go:

The remining members of a 60s rock band die in a crash. St. Peter tells the piano player, "You're in big trouble. But before I turn you away from the Pearly Gates, have you ever done a work of charity?"

The piano player says, "Well, when I was in fifth grade, I once helped a little old lady cross the street."

St. Peter says, "What! Is that all? I'd better talk to the Boss." He gets on the intercom, talks awhile, goes hmm, hah, oh really, well what do you know, and hangs up. He tells the piano player, "You're in luck! The little old lady is in heaven, and she asked the Boss to let you in."

Next is the bass guitarist. St. Peter tells him he's also in big trouble, and wants to know if he ever did a work of charity. The bass guitarist says that once, in sixth grade, he cleaned the blackboards without being forced to do it. Once again, St. Peter calls the Boss. Hmm, hah, oh really, well what do you know, and hangs up. He tells the bass guitarist, "You're in luck! Sister Mary went to heaven, and she asked the Boss to let you in."

Next is the lead guitarist. St. Peter tells him he's also in big trouble, and wants to know if he ever did a work of charity. The lead guitarist says, "Well, years ago, we used to have a drummer. Once, I bought him a beer."

St. Peter gets on the intercom, goes hmm, ha, oh really, well what do you know, and hangs up. He tells the lead guitarist, "You're in luck! When you get to hell, the drummer will buy you a beer."

If you want to join a really good group of NWC enthusiasts, come and visit the newsgroup at The Noteworthy Newsgroup

Good point, Andrew. The forum seems to largely be a dialog between new users experiencing problems, and older hands who can solve them, with a few random outsiders (who have nothing to do with NWC) thrown in. The newsgroup seems to be the real "forum" for regular NWC musicians.

But that's the way it tends to be with other forums and web boards, for various other programs.

That is a very interesting question indeed. Why don't people use the forum anymore? Simple really. People ask questions about NWC here because they don't know a particular action. When people stop asking questions, then they know everything. When people know everything, they stop asking questions!

I knew that!

I think that most use the newsgroup instead. I know that I don't often stick my head in here. The newsgroup is more convenient for me.

I tried to use the newsgroup once, and it started to "download" a bajillion messages into my email program. Apparently, my email program could only handle half a bajillion messages at once. Took three days to get it up and running again. Haven't tried it since.

Your newsreader should have an option as to how many of the bajillion message headers you download. You could set it for something reasonable, like the last 100 or so, just so you get an idea of what's presently being discussed -- and never mind the stuff that happened last week, month, year...

Dont feel bad, I'm 12 and I'm in the forum. Yeah, that is me asking the question if anyone plays the piano. I guess that this site has to get more popular, since today everyone LISTENS to music and doesn't really compose any.

Ah, I am glad to see that anonymous noted age 12. Just guessing from some of the topics (and often, some of the language style) I have often supposed that the forum gets many visitors below they age where one can play riffs in the bars.

NWC is very accessible to younger musicians, and to music educators.

My point: Some users of the forum may not yet know some basic things that others take for granted.

oh, I'd supposed that people don't visit the Forum for the same reason they don't go to church or read philosophy:

All the hard questions have already been answered...

You got that right... there's some of us who have no idea about music... me for example. I have been a professional musician, playing old-timey and Irish in more than a few bands for over twenty-five years, and I'm just starting to learn how to read this stuff thanks to Noteworthy. I've tried Sibelius and Mozart and they were so confusing I gave up (I have the attention span of a gnat) but Noteworthy has been a boon of monumental proportions, allowing me to finally get down all the tunes that have been floating around in my (alleged) brain for so long. Now If I can just figure out what all those extra marks above the staff are and how they work, I'll die a happy man. (Dal Segno, Fermata, Trill, etc., etc., etc.)

Re: How come nobody uses the forum anymore?

That's easy.

Dal Segno = The name of the bartender.
Fermata = A kind of drink made with Tequila.
Trill = How you sing after a few Fermatas.
p = What you need to do later.
mf = Abbreviation commonly used in rap music.

Hope that helps.

Yep. And, the sad part of it is... It's on-topic!

Sheesh, having a p after a fermata - what an old forte!

I'm trilled to see this thread. Creates a whole new dynamic.

Makes me want to pedal down to the nearest bar. Hope I don't need a key to get in. Take note, this time of night, one should be hitting the sack to get some rest.

...it seems that the musical fun is at the U. S. Supreme Court. Here's an actual quotation from oral arguments before the court, on (believe it or not) April 1, 2003. But it's not an April Fool's joke, it's directly from the published court transcript. The Justice speaking is probably Rehnquist:

"Does the constitution prohibit distribution [discrimination] against - - against oboe players as opposed to flute players?"
