Something About a Floppy

ok, let me start by telling you my life story. i once had internet at my house and I downloaded NWC 1.70. a few monthes later, i no longer have internet but i want to get version 1.75. with me so far? ok. so i go to a nearby library to download version 1.75 onto a floppy disk so i could take it home to my computer. after transfering the file to my floppy, i try uploading NWC onto my computer at home but it doesn't let me. there seems to be some sort of "error". what is it?

Welllllll.........  what sort of error do it say you gots?

Sometimes proggies have problems loading directly from floppy, try copying to your hard drive and execute from there.

Thats also a problem. I tried copying it onto my computer but it said: Unknown has caused an error in Unknown. or something like that. You know those illegal operation thingys that pop up? thats what came up lol

Common problem with floppies. They can be readable/writable on one machine, but not on another due to alignment differences or something... especially if one of the floppies is worn out, as is likely to be the case at a library computer.

Fred has a good point there.  I had all grades of problems when I was using the library computers.  Best bet is to buy a brand new floppy and try try again.  (Also, make sure that the library computer knows that you want to save to drive A and not C, had that problem too).

It was a new floppy. I think it has something to do with my computer because I already have NWC 1.7 installed.

Normally it won't matter if you install a newer version of NWC on top of (or alongside) an existing one. I've done that many times, for various reasons.

In general, however, it's wise to un-install previous versions of software before installing a newer one. NoteWorthy is exceptional in this regard; but just because it's well-behaved about this does not mean that all software will be as polite!
