Broken Tie

Is it possible to put a broken tie on the stave? This is needed where some words in various verses have 1 OR 2 syllables for that 1 note.

Yes! I created the font "NWslurs" to help deal with that very situation (among others).

Find it in the helpful files section of the Scriptorium. You need to use it as a "text" font. If you don't know how to do that, read the NWC instructions for user-defined text fonts.
