A MIDI file doesn't "contain" sounds as such.  It just contains numbers indicating the program patch to use.  It is up to your sound card, or external MIDI instrument, to interpret those numbers.  Although the General MIDI standard specifies which numbers correspond to which instrument, some manufacturers implement additional instruments, and obviously, there are slight differences between the exact sound made by different sound cards / instruments.
The short answer is, you can't!  What sounds one way on your set up might sound different on mine (especially since I've got a really old Yamaha keyboard that doesn't support General MIDI!)
