printing errors

I'm having problems printing piano music. The staff is completely filled in with the lines white. It's using up all my ink! I have tried to switch everything, even email it to myself. Any suggestions. The printer is an hp inkjet.

Some questions to help you solve this problem:
  • Do you have the same trouble with other documents, not NWC documents (printing an image for example)?
  • Does this happen with other NWC files, not piano? (suppose so)
  • Does this happen to any size of scores (File / Page Setup / Options / Staff size) ?
  • Did you try to re-install the printer driver?
  • Do you use Windows XP?
  • Are you sure that the cable is 100% correct?
  • Did you went to the HP web site?
  • Did you check the printer options (B&W/Color, resolution, paper...)

Ok, i just tried to print a regular page (i'm using virtual pc, as i have a mac) and the page did the same thing. the lines were black with the words coming out white with colored dots. i'm on a deadline!!!  is there anyway to send it to myself via email, or any other program that would support nwc?

It sounds like your print driver is very poorly behaved. You might try printing to file, then finding someone with a working print setup that can print the file for you. For that matter, others can print the file for you using the browser plug-in.

I don't understand your need to send you the file via email: you can copy it to a diskette (if your mac has a diskette drive, which is not the case of many i-macs), can't you?

OTOH, what you could do too is to "print" it to pdf or eps. Refer to the excellent page on that subject (ghostscript) thar Fred wrote at http://www.netidea.com/%7efredn/. Then you could print the file directly from Mac environment.

If you have a microsoft word working on your mac os, maybe is it able to include a wmf file? WMF files can be made with NWC in the print preview window (clck on "copy" button).

And finally, if your virtual PC could print correctly, it would be the best. Did you try to contact them (virtual PC)?

I'm not including PS files on my main site anymore, so the only place this page is useful is on the Magic Flute site. The Ghostscript page has therefore moved to

but might be a little out of date, I'll have to check when I get a round tuit. ;)
