recording neophyte

My Daughter wants to record midi from her Alesis Q 7.1 to noteworthy...but she has two problems.
1) both the melody notes and the chords are placed on the treble clef; does she have to record one part then the other, or is there a way to simultaneously record both clefs?
2) No matter what she sets, the composer takes the note imput for a few notes, then changes to whole notes only.

Thanks, Terry

1) You can try to do this using the "Maximum single track chord size" option, but it rarely gives you exactly what you want. It is better to do them separately.

2) For real time recording, you pre-existing material must be as long or longer in duration, because the recording will stop as soon as play back stops.

About 2.: did she try to set the note/rest resolutions to thinner values?
Menu Tools | Options, in the "import" tab, try "note resolution" as "thirtysecond notes" and "rest resolution" to "sixteenth rest".
If this gives too precise results, you can change the values at will to fit to your precision on keyboard.

However it's really easy to change the duration in NWC (select the note, and type in 1 to 6, or '+' and '-', or click the icon you want) so it may not be a problem.

Hope this helps!
