Sound Blaster Live! vibrato

I have just installed the SB Live! value card and am happy with the more relastic sound of the instruments especially after playing around with sound fonts (thanks to Hank Robertson - 29 March). The only problem I have is that all the instruments have a very marked vibrato (frequency wobble) which is fine on some instruments' long note (cellos for example) but is terrible on others (piano, clarinet). How do I control this. Many thanks for any help - Barry

First of all, check if your "modulation wheel" controller is open and set its value to "0".

If that isn't the case (probably isn't), then you're having trouble with the soundfont you're using. Change it. Or, if you dare, edit it with Vienna.

See https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=2152.msg12132#msg12132 for help about loading/replacing/accessing soundfonts.

PS: "Name includes unsupported characters". What's the matter? My C-cedilla was 'suported' for years and why is it a bad guy now???

With the new forum back-end technology, we added new validity checks for names, subjects, and messages. I relaxed the checks so your name should again be valid.

Actually Ertugrul, I spoke too soon. In trying to correct your name, I ran across character set problems which made it impossible. We are going to have to stick to the new character set guidelines, at least for the moment.

OK, your identity should now be fully supported. I updated old instances of your identity where you were not using the cedilla.

I'm having trouble with this, also.  How do I find this "modulation wheel" controller?

Modulation wheel is a GM effect to add vibrato (or at least I use it for that).

If you're speaking for a NWC file, you should see it appearing as {mpc:mod-wheel} on the sta[ff/ves]. If you want to look into a MIDI file, then you need to open it in a sequencer such as Cakewalk.

I don't think it's a modulation-wheel problem. You'll probably have to change the soundfont. Try asking on The Soundfonts Newsgroup for better answers.

PS: Eric, thanks for all the trouble. It seems OK now. At least I see the Ç in my previous reply.
