Lyric Refrain - Note Chasing

The new user tip posted today certainly works, but there could be problems using the bottom staff if, for instance, the notes don't exist in the right places for the syllables, or perhaps if the staff size is altered.

More effective would be to duplicate the staff with the lyrics and layer it. Put the refrain lyrics on one staff with just one lyric line, and the verse lyrics on the other with as many lines as required. Mute or assign midi channels to taste.

And there is no need to count up and undescore notes without lyric syllables, just select the whole lot and mark them as 'Lyric Syllable/Never'.

(just in case: the tip is at http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/usertip9.htm#refrain (named "Adding Refrain Lyrics So They Highlight During Note Chase for Every Verse")

Peter, when first reading the tip I supposed the staff had to be layered; but it is not.

Though your solution has the following inconvenient : the "Refrain" will be highlighted just one time, or I have misunderstood sthg.

btw, I suppose this tip works for single voice work, for I don't see how it can be done for SATB without piano for instance (unless using a layered staff)

If there is only one lyric line then it is always highlighted however many repeats, hence my suggestion for a 'refrain' staff. In fact if there are more repeats than lyric lines, then the last line is repeatedly highlighted as necessary.

And yes, for SATB the layered approach is the only practical way to go - unless someone knows better ;-)
