I cant get percussion

I can't seem to get any percussion at all except woodblocks which is really annoying me. There simply isn't an option on my playback instrument list of any untuned percussion, i.e. drum kits/timpani. I looked at some of the old questions and it says set it to channel 10 - WHAT? I don't know anything about channels? Help me!

Hi, Tessa-

I agree. Woodblocks would get very boring. Here's how to set the channel. Highlight the staff you're going to set to percussion and hit F2 to bring up the staff properties. Click the MIDI tab and you'll see CHANNEL at the bottom. Just set it to 10 and you've got a drum kit.

Having done this, I suggest you next visit the NWC Scriptorium and download the Starks/Purdam classic DRUM.NWC. It will provide a permanent reference for you.
