How do you do a roll on NWC?

I was just wondering, how do you add a roll to a chord? I dont know if I have the correct terminology for it. If anyone has heard Brahms Waltz in A flat, Op. 39 No. 15, what I want to duplicate is that little rolling action in the left hand using NWC. Thank you.

I'm not sure of the correct term either - I'm assuming you mean a broken chord. There are two parts to this question. One is, how to write it so the printed score looks right, the other is to make the playback sound right.

See the sample file "moonlight.nwc" for examples of both. Bar 154 has one. The printing staff contains an italic text "{" character in front of the chord. You may find a more convincing glyph in the BOXMARKS font (the lower case "c" equivalent perhaps?).

The sound is done in a hidden stave (see Page Setup to make it visible). It's written out explicitly with short notes and ties.

Note that you don't actually NEED to do both. It depends on your purpose for scoring. If all you care about is what it looks like, don't bother with the hidden stave. If all you care about is what it sounds like, then just write what you want to hear. If you care about both, you have to do both.

The explanation John made is quite correcrt.
And this sign is called "arpeggio"(Italian)
so far as it is about bar 154 of Moonlight.
