help help please im begging now! 2001-05-05 04:00 am okay, i apologise for my previous use of the forums. i have structured my help request now to avoid more ramblings. here is what i am doing:i have a SB Live! Platinum 5.1 card. what i want to do is use SoundFonts in noteworthy composer. in version 1.7 of NWC i have no "Playback Instrument" under the staff menu, but in 1.5 i do. so i'm assuming that i need to use NWC15.in AudioHQ, i select SoundFont and i am given a bank configuration menu. theres a combo box that is titled "Select Bank" and the box has a structure like this:Synth:001 -002 -and so on.in the Synth slot i have loaded a 8mb soundfont, "Illusion". in the 001 bank i have loaded Gort's Synth.Bank 002 is used by bank 001.now. in the AudioHQ Keyboard i am able to select, view, play and control every instrument contained in both soundfonts. i select Bank 000, which is displayed as 000-[Illusion Bank] I want to access *ANY* instruments but now i will say that in NWC i am trying to access the "Slap/Pop Bass" that exists in instrument 012.so what do i do in NWC? how do i access these instruments? so far i've tried quite a few of combinations for instrument patches and selecting different patch banks. to no avail! nothing i've tried so far has allowed me to use soundfonts. i'm beginning to think that it is impossible with NWC! others claim they have done it, but what could i be doing wrong? nothing i do allows me to break out of the stupid card's default sounds. i have 128mb of ram to blow on soundfonts, so i dont have to care "if the shops are open". please please somebody tell me what i have to do! i feel like an idiot trying to frustratingly find different combinations in the bank select box. just tell me how i access them. then i can go on to learning the technical information about soundfonts. if i have a soundfont loaded in bank 000, how, in NWC, do i access it? or is it impossible? if so, please NWC add support for soundfonts and banks! camus Quote Selected
Re: help help please im begging now! Reply #1 – 2001-05-05 04:00 am Let's see if I can start you on the right path. 1. Are you saying that you have no playback sound cards listed on the NWC "Tools, Options, Midi". If that is the case, go to the Windows control panel and check the Multimedia area (in particular the Midi Tab) to see if all is well. If you do not see the soundcard options there, something is wrong. You may also want to check the System, Devices area to make sure the card is functioning correctly. If there are any problems with the foregoing, you may need to remove and then reload the soundblaster and the software package option to see if that helps (assuming that you have relevant IRQs to handle the card). In regard to the Softsynths (once they are correctly loaded), unfortunately Noteworthy is a bit clunky in selecting special instruments outside of the conventional set. You probably need to figure out the controller for a particular instrument program, and then set it under the "Staff Properties" "Instrument" area (assuming that you have selected "A SBLive! MIDI Synth" or "B SBLive! MIDI Synth" and under the Creative Live software, have loaded the particular soundfont banks you desire into the relevant MIDI Synth)I think there is a good discussion and some good links in the Scriptorium. You may want to visit that. Quote Selected
Re: help help please im begging now! Reply #2 – 2001-05-05 04:00 am okay i should have specified my message more clearly... there is nothing wrong with my card... i dont have a midi out device to hook up to my computer so i have to use Creative S/W Synth! is this incompatible? MUST i buy something to connect to my midi out thing? i just want to know what i type in the instrument boxes in NWC to access my soundfonts in bank 000! or am i just ignorant? Quote Selected
Re: help help please im begging now! Reply #3 – 2001-05-06 04:00 am Aah! Maybe I see. I happen to use the Creative S/W Synth. It is the "built in" soundfonts that Creative got from Ensoniq (and are the basic general set of programs). to use soundfonts, you will need to use the Creative A or B MIDI Synth setups on the Creative software. The "S/W Synth" is strictly the build-in soundtables on the card(as I understand it).Other folks on the forum will probably be of better help in that area (how to select extended sets of sounds and instruments). Again, I urge you to go to the Scriptorium and/or other sites dealing with sound fonts. Several sites have very detailed instructions on use of soundfonts. The information is a bit too complex to summarize in the context of a forum. Quote Selected

Re: help help please im begging now! Reply #6 – 2001-05-08 04:00 am well, all in all i tried and searched everywhere, but i couldnt figure this out. apparantly it does have to do with the midi device... and my lack of being able to get things to actually PLAY from the A: or B: SB Live! synths. but other programs let me play through them... which will have to do until one day i can figure this out. n-track studio is among them, which allows you to crudely compose from a piano roll, play and record with other audio formats and mixdown everything into a fully mixed song. but NWC will still play the biggest role in the fact that its the easiest to write music with. it's playback will just be rough-draft.camus Quote Selected
