I upgraded to the Plus version from the free basic version, because you can edit the Real Audio files with it, and do more creative things. But there are probably less expensive utilities out there that do the same thing. Real Producer Plus costs 149 dollars. Expensive for just straightforward converting for slow-speed modems.

It's a different format, but if your problem is that you want to send audio intelligible to a low-speed modem, then try Microsoft WMA (Windows Media) format, or Apple Quicktime 6 MP4 format.

The WAV to WMA converter is free from Microsoft, I believe it is called the Windows Media Components kit. Quicktime 6 (not earlier versions) will only convert to MP4 if you buy the $30 "pro" player. But anyone with Quicktime 6 can receive your file.
