Rest directly below a note, below the staff etc

-----------------
-------dd--------- How do you place the rests in
--d------------d---
-----------d------ directly below a note in a bar?

3 NWC doesn't want to do this
Note where the 3 is it would be in between staffs, and below a large count note,so as to add filler melody, and not to go out of count per bar. I dont know the musical term for such a rest, sorry.

Your diagram is not clear to me, but I think I know what you're driving at.

If the rest is longer than the note you want to combine it with, you can do this using "stem down" for the rest and "stem up" for the other note(s). You must enter the rest first, then the notes (use <Shift><Enter> to make the notes simultaneous with the rest). Be aware that NWC considers the combination of rest and notes to be a single "chord" whose duration is that of its shortest component.

If the rest is not longer than the note you want to combine it with, you must use staff layering to achieve the effect you want.

<Shift><Enter> ?

I'd think it's <Ctrl><Enter> instead.

You're absolutely right. I never get this wrong in practice, but then my brain doesn't know what my fingers know.
