beam note tool

I am a new registered user of this product and find that the beam note action does not respond despite trying all the various ways of activating it . I have selected the notes and the tool stubbornly refuses to activate HELP!

You have to make sure that the ALL notes you are selecting are 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, or 1/64, exclusively. If by chance you are highlighting a rest, a 1/4 of anything else among the notes you are trying to beam, stubbornly, the command just won't work.

If your using it properly you would select some expected multiple of notes, such as 2 or 4 or 8 eighths, 3 or 6 triplets, etc. Then hit Ctrl-B and away they Beam! If that doesn't work, then you really do have a software issue. Try reinstalling.
btw, Beaming is a 'toggle' function; if you Ctrl-B any notes that are beamed, it un-beams them.

And there's always Automatic Beam in the Tools menu.

I'm Sorry:
What annoys me quite a bit is to be unable to place a rest between beamed notes.

I'd like to be able to beam across barlines and clef changes. I'd also like to be able to make a clef change within a triplet (or other n-tuplets, once NWC has them, but let's not go down that road).

And if only we could be able to beam across staves.

In response to Little Caesar's comment that it is annoying not to be able to beam over rests...there is a way. At the newsgroup an example of how to do this was posted by Fred way back on 3-11-00. There are many other helpful tricks and workarounds that have been shared at the newsgroup, so if you haven't done so already, you might want to visit there. There is a link in the site map here at the NW website.
