Delete text above bar line

This problem probably has a very obvious solution, but it has stumped me so far.

I am having trouble deleting some text I inserted well above the bar line, staff position 15 o4 16, to indicate the original composer, with the Preserve Width box unchecked. The cursor moves above the bar line just fine, but I can't get the bar line to move down so I can see what I'm deleting. When I try to do it blind, the delete key just starts removing the bar line. Is there a way I can delete text above the bar line without removing the notes?

Any help with this would be appreciated, just for future idiot-proofing.

Go to Staff Properties, then temporarily increase the vertical spacing for the staff. You can now see what you are editing.
